The Joel/Kevin/Trace years have Manos. (though a vocal minority would dethrone it for Monster A-Go-Go)
The Mike/Kevin/Trace years have Red Zone Cuba.
The Mike/Kevin/Bill years have Hobgoblins.
My question is simple, is there any movie during the earliest era, the "Josh as Servo" seasons, that is the definitive bad movie of those seasons? If not, which is your pick?
The iconic pick is probably Robot Monster, though personally I'd rather watch that than Moon Zero Two. Gamera vs. Zigra and Superdome are pretty painful too.

I don't think it gets much worse than Mad Monster. Possibly The Robot vs. The Aztec Mummy. But Mad Monster is slow, underlit, and dull.
I think Moon Zero Two is a very watchable movie, and a higher quality production than most of the other season one flicks. Overall, I think the KTMA eps have much better movies, but I'm a sucker for the made-for-TV stuff.

I guess that's where we differ Mr. A. I can watch Mad Monster with relative ease, though despite its productiong values Moon Zero Two makes me lean my head back, groan, and go "Uggggggh, is it over yet?" I'm more in tune to the wavelength of trashy monster movies than goofy swinging 60s, which makes my head hurt. I'd give you Aztec Mummy though.
KTMA had some decent movies. I surprisingly got into City on Fire and that took me completely by surprise. I also enjoyed the episodes of Space 1999 they featured too.

I remember "Robot Vs. the Aztec Mummy" being incredibly boring.
That said, I wouldn't really nominate "Hobgoblins" as the worst film from the Mike/Kevin/Bill era. While it *is* a sick movie, I still say "Invasion of the Neptune Men" and "Incredibly Strange Creatures...." are worse.

I find Neptune Men a breeze personally. A very easy breeze, but I guess that's just me. And I more or less consider Incredibly Strange Creatures more of the Monster A-Go-Go of its era. Close, but there's another experiment that overshadows it on the impression it made on the fanbase.

re: Neptune men - Near the end (last 1/4?) it gets really painful.
re: hobgoblins - It's OBVIOUS it was meant to be a cheesy flick. I don't understand why people don't get that.
re: Moon Zero Two - It's also not meant to be a serious drama like "2001: A Space Odyssey". It was billed as a space western so it was meant to be cheesy to some degree.
Now.. to tackle the original question asked: I'd have to say "Monster a Go-Go". To quote Crow: *sigh* "This is gonna suck."

Monster A-Go-Go wasn't riffed during the Josh era.
And just because something's meant to be cheesy doesn't make it enjoyable, in my opinion.

Moon Zero Two is crappy, but not the worst of the Josh era, in my opinion. From season one, Robot vs. the Aztec Mummy is awful, and so are both Mad Monster and Robot Monster. It doesn't help the last two that they come with Commando Cody, either, but that's more about the episode.
I agree the KTMA era generally has better movies. I was also kinda shocked at how good City on Fire looked.
But The Million Eyes of Sumuru is no picnic. That one should be up there with the worst movies done in the Josh era.

I always dread the Slime People the most. However, like Manos and Hobgoblins, I think Robot vs. the Aztec Mummy has a so bad it is hilarious aspect to it.

I wasn't saying cheesy films aren't enjoyable, I just don't classify such films as "bad". Same goes for the kids movies done on MST3k. Although, Santa C.C.T. Martians might be an exception to that. Ok... so worst JOSH era film (not counting KTMA)? I'd have to say "The Slime People". I can't comment on KTMA since I haven't watched any of them in a long time. I know a couple that wouldn't be the worst IMO: Humanoid Woman, SST Death Flight

Just to be sure I'm clear, here, we're talking about the actual movie, not whether or not the episode was that great...?
OK, cool...
I'm going to call it a toss-up between Mad Monster and Robot Monster, with a bit of an edge toward Robot Monster because of that stupid alien gorilla with a space-helmet head which said to me, quite plainly, that They Just Didn't Care.
The Robot Vs The Aztec Mummy was a world-class stinkburger for sure, but it was just so gobsmackingly bad that it crossed the line into a kind of perverse awesomeness.

Close, but there's another experiment that overshadows it on the impression it made on the fanbase. I, too, dived right into Neptune Men and enjoyed every wretched, godawful minute of it. Still, it is one of the most wretched, godawful movies they ever took on. I haven't watched Hobgoblins in some years, so I'll need to go back and take another look to see if that's any more wretched or godawful.

Robot Vs the Aztec Mummy: You know it's gonna be a great movie when they spend 40% of the screen time re-capping the first two films in the series.

Out of all the seasons one episodes, none are as dull and painful as The Robot vs. the Aztec Mummy. Mad Monster, The Corpse Vanishes, The Slime People, and even Moon Zero Two all barely edge out episode 102 as the definitive worst movie of the era.
