Came across "The Legend of Boggy Creek" at, of all places, a small local library. This is the original 1972 film made by Charles Pierce, who was the professor in Boggy Creek II, which was, as we all know, the second second Boggy Creek following Return to Boggy Creek, which starred Mary Ann from Gilligan's Island and Kimberly from Diff'rent Strokes but is not actually in the Boggy Creek canon because its production was Pierce-less.
Now, back to the original. Put plainly, man this should have been MST3K'ed. I hope it's the first one any MST3K start-up would select. It has much of what the second second Boggy Creek has, but is incredibly hokier because it was one of the first "docudramas" ever made for the big screen. It cost little more than $100,000 to make and grossed $20 million.
It has Pierce's son in it, just like BCII! It has EVEN MORE whittling than BCII! Best of all, it has Herb Jones, who is a more believable though less colorful hermit than Crenshaw!
It also is narrated, from which comes one of the best lines I have ever heard in a movie. The line matter-of-factly "explains" why Herb has a hitch in his giddy-up: "Herb limps because he once accidentally shot part of his foot away in a boating accident." The only further explanation was that he was all alone, but made it out of the creek to a doctor. This leaves us to surmise that many people in the Boggy Creek area are known to shoot their feet off while boating. In fact, the ER there must consistently be full of people who shoot themselves while boating. Perhaps that's true, but the quote also implies that Herb has only one foot when it is clear by looking at him that he has two -- or perhaps, now just one and a half.
I must add that the original Boggy Creek monster does little more than stand around and/or rattle windows in the original movie, including a window to a bathroom that appeared to have been in use (perhaps inspiring the epic outhouse scene from BCII?). The monster does scare a cat to death, though. So there's that.
Now, to be serious for a moment. The DVD cover proclaims it to be an American classic. I think it could be an MST3K classic (if not, perhaps Rifftrax could get a hold of it?) and I recommend it as a peculiar artifact of the early 70s.
A couple other suggestions for the (fingers crossed) MST3K V2.0: Queen of Blood with John Saxon, Basil Rathbone and Dennis Hopper; and Yor: The Hunter of the Future with Reb Brown.
How about you -- any recommendations (in a perfect world where movie rights were easier to acquire)? Also, should the new MST3K pick movies related to ones that have already been on the original series?

I'd like to see them re-do most of the episodes from Season 1 with a fully formed writing staff.

Who cares if it's a little too "on the nose", I wanna see Troll 2 finally get a proper MST treatment.

Slime People for a re-do ep.
And the ones they wanted or considered and didn't do... From Hell It Came and Arch Hall Jr's Wild Guitar
Others I'd like to see done...
Attack of the Crab Monsters
The Giant Claw
Richard Cunha's hilariously wonderful Frankenstein's Daughter
The Norseman (from Charles B Pierce)
Journey to the Seventh Planet (John Agar)
The Invisible Invaders (John Carradine)
The Fists of Bruce Lee (with Mr. Poo!)
CC and Company (Joe Namath)
Attack of he Beast Creatures
Bride of the Gorilla with Raymond Burr
and of course... GYMKATA!

Moon Zero-Two and Robot Holocaust would be my big choices for a redo, along with SST-Deathflight from KTMA.

Frankly, I don't want to see anything re-done or newer than 1989 or so.
There are a ton of Italian movies they should do, starting with the first and third movies in "The Bronx Warriors Trilogy": 1990: The Bronx Warriors and The New Barbarians. They should also do the 1st, 3rd and 4th Ator movies.

Another one that came to mind for me is "At the Earth's Core" with Doug McClure and Peter Cushing. That is an amazingly ridiculous movie with men in rubber suits and monster mind control. The opportunities for riffs are jaw-dropping. And what about Vincent Price? He NEEDS to be riffed MST3K style!

And what about Vincent Price? He NEEDS to be riffed MST3K style! I'll see your Vincent Price and raise you a Shatner. How many times were he and his show referenced, but they never did any movies with the "Star Trek" cast, or any version of the show. Closest they came was John de Lancie in "SST Death Flight".

Night of the Demon from 1980. It's really gory, but am I crazy in thinking it wouldn't be out of place with so many other cheezy 80's monster movies shown on mst3k if the proper cuts were made? It's got that kind of low-quality, bad sound, narration and dialogue-heavy scenes that are synonymous with mst3k movies. cinemassacre.com/2010/10/17/night-of-the-demon/

Oh, and you know what else I think they should do; Killdozer! Why Not? They mentioned it so many times on the show!
