What episodes had movies that were so bad, not even Joel/Mike and the Bots could make it funny?

Ah, well, you use the term "movie". I wouldn't classify these features as "movies" as rather I would classify them as "movie residue". It's sort of like a glass of milk. After you've finished drinking it, there's a white film covering your glass. If you were really desperate, you could try licking as much residual milk from the vessel as you could. However, it would end up consuming more energy than its worth. You're better off just getting another glass of milk.
Okay, I better tread carefully so as not to invoke Torgo's anger. In all seriousness, I actually reasonably like the episode that featured "OTHELLO". I would even say that the version of "OTHELLO" that was showcased was decent. It was simple and to the point.
I found that "The Castle of Fu Manchu" was really one of the most trying films I've seen on the show. I can't even remember what I found so painful about the movie as I've only watched the episode once. Whatever it was about that movie that frustrated me, it helps me garner a greater level of respect for Coleman Francis' pictures.

I'd say Castle of Fu Manchu WAS a really bad movie, but I think J&TB's actually DID make that episode tolerable, so I'm not going to include that one. Overdrawn at the Memory Bank, however - sheesh.
And I double DOG dare ya to ban me! I'll say it - HAMLET!! Despised it. Hated it. Sucked. You get the picture.
The Undead. Absolutely couldn't stand that whole Digger Smolken thing.
Edit: Boggy Creek II: don't think I've been able to get through the whole episode once.

i'm not much of a fan of these kinds of threads, but i feel i have to stand up and defend hamlet. it's my #1 favorite mst3k. i know the movie is draggy and bleak, but mike and the bots did some of their finest riffing in that one, imo. i never tire of watching it. i've only seen fu manchu once. i had already heard so many bad things about it from this board that i put off watching it for a long time. there are still a number of episodes i have not seen from season one and the ktma's, but from the ones i've seen, yeah, fu manchu is pretty bad. but if you look at the positive, it's a great ep to put in when you can't sleep.

I'd say Castle of Fu Manchu WAS a really bad movie, but I think J&TB's actually DID make that episode tolerable, so I'm not going to include that one. See, I thought the exact opposite of Castle of Fu Manchu. I've watched it several times, and it's really not that terrible of a movie. It's nowhere near as painful as the Coleman Francis trilogy nor as confusing as a Sandy Frank special. It's actually J&TB's reactions that make it seem worse than it actually is. I think the running gags about how horrible the film is are overdone and negatively influence what we, the viewers at home, think.

IMHO Fu earns its bad reputation. On a technical level alone... The lighting, sound and film stock is abysmal. You have poorly matched stock shots and the editing overall is embarrassing, with scenes simply reused for padding (Fu rushing from his crumbling Castle twice). J&TB aren't making that stuff up, it's right there on the screen.
I know Franco has his fans, but the films producer, Harry Alan Towers wasn't one of them. He said Franco couldn't direct traffic, and called him a musician who traded his trombone for a zoom lens. I don't know if that's a fair assessment of his entire filmography, but it certainly fits here.
But I do agree with crowschmo that Joel and the bots make it tolerable.
Batwoman is tough for me, but it has good laughs, Hamlet is gray and dull but last time I watched it I was in stitches several times. So I can't hate on it any more. I guess that leaves Strange Creatures as the one movie even the gang couldn't redeem for me.

First one to say Hamlet will be banned. LOL Other than that one, my pick would be Secret Agent Super Dragon. And I think saying "Coleman couldn't direct traffic" is a VERY fair assessment of his entire filmography, ALL of his films have been roasted on the show for a reason, not even Ed Wood has that honor (If you want to call it that).

I'd say The Amazing Transparent Man and the Dead Talk Back. Both movies were just terrible and I found the riffing for those movies pretty sparse, with only a few chuckles here and there.

(And there's all that was mentioned by Mighty Jack about the lighting and editing, etc).

I don't doubt your honest assessment, but I stand by my thesis. Sorry. I still think that had J&TBs treated Fu Manchu like any other episode, it wouldn't have the bottom of the barrel reputation it has. If they had cried and whined like that during an equally bad/washed out/bad audio but passable movie like, say, "The Indestructible Man" then we'd remember that as being the worst ever.
But in the spirit of positive contributions, I'll mention an oft-overlooked worst ever candidate: "The Blood Waters of Dr. Z". That one's just unbearable, sargassum or not.

I'd say The Wild World of Batwoman and The Beast of Yucca Flats. Sorry fans of The Beast of Yucca Flats, but I just can't watch that episode without being bored to death.

I second Mr. A about Blood Waters of Dr. Z. It's a tossup between that and Fu Manchu IMHO.
