Wow, this looks like great fun. The Giant Spider Invasion getting Criterion Collection-esque treatment on Blu-ray. Even includes an intro on Bill Rebane with Mike and Kevin. And a mini comic book. Daniel Griffith mentioned on Facebook he has been working on this. This film is close to my heart because it was filmed near where I grew up and, well, "Packers!" and such.
Here's the link
Can be pre-ordered soon. So I guess we're in the pre-pre-order stage right now so we can start anticipating our anticipation.

Noticed the CD that will come with the Blu-ray will be from "The Giant Spider Invasion - the Musical." Then found this on Rebane's website.
One other note: There is also a DVD to be released, but with less features. One of the features listed on the DVD is "Kevin Murphy of 'Mystery Science Theater' introduces Bill Rebane (7:08)." Not sure why Mike is not listed as being part of that here when Mike is listed in the Blu-ray special features.

Oh, dear God. It's the end times.
Stop me if I'm wrong, but doesn't a movie actually have to have some kind of seriously redeeming qualities in order to make it into the Criterion Collection?
Granted, The Monkees' Head may have been a total goof-fest, but it was actually a really fun flick, and an excellent snapshot of '60s pop culture. Giant Spider Invasion, on the other hand... eeeeewwwwww.
Hell, if they're going to include that, they may as well include Monster A Go-Go.

Yeah, sorry about that. Apocalypse averted (for now). I meant the Criterion thing as a joke. But if there was a Criterion edition of it, this would be it. Actually VCI has done a good job on the releases I've seen. Check out the special edition of Santa Claus w/commentary (and the creepy cut scene in hell) or the Dark Star Blu-ray.

It would be more appra-poe to say "Special Edition DVD". I'm curious to see what Rebane has to say about some of the things related to the movie. I know he's gone on record saying it's not a very good film.

I always like seeing movies like this get special treatment. :-) Not a great movie, but it's got a special place in my heart.
Now I can put it on constant loop on my DVD player, and make it 8 AM Saturday Morning on the Sci-Fi channel forever. If I just interrupt every third showing with The Screaming Skull or something I should be good.

The Blu-ray special edition of Giant Spider Invasion, which was available as a VCI Entertainment website-exclusive, is no longer available on the site. However, I contacted VCI Entertainment through their website and on the phone. The operator stated that they plan to make the Blu-ray edition widely available at other retailers in February. They will allow you to still order the Blu-ray edition if you order over the phone for shipping now.
I already got my copy earlier this year. I'm going to send my Blu-ray cover to The Hollywood Show for Barbara Hale to sign, for their upcoming show this month, using their mail order drop off service. The cut off date is fast approaching to send in items. Ms. Hale was originally supposed to appear in-person, as part of a Big Wendesday film cast reunion, but will now only do mail orders, given she's now 93 years old. She didn't do too many in-person signing appearances at these LA-area autograph shows. Getting her autograph on your own personal item has been a challenge for some time. I have an old 2-disc DVD copy of Giant Spider Invasion signed by director Bill Rebane from his website in 2012.

I'm glad I got the Blu-ray last month through the website. As far as non-MST'd releases go, this is a great get, particularly the Blu-ray set, as it has an extra disk filled with additional content, plus a CD of goofy songs meant for the stage play of the film, and a mini 4-page comic.
There is talk of MST3K here and there on the extras. The obvious link is Kevin Murphy's intro of Rebane at the Rebane fim fest held in Madison a few years ago. They show Rebane along with Mike and Kevin signing autographs. All told, there must have been 3-4 hours of extras, though about an hour and a half of that is boring home videos of a giant spider skeleton being pulled out of the northwoods for display at a festival. There's also Rebane interviews and lots of slides that seem to come straight from his scrapbooks about the film and its legacy. Fun stuff. The archival interviews are also fun, particularly the one with Robert Easton, who seemed like a nice guy (unlike his character). The Ballyhoo doc (which I think is on the standard DVD release also) is also enjoyable. The only thing missing is a commentary track.
All in all, there's everything you would ever want to know about GSI here, and probably much you would rather not know, such as Leslie Parrish's close encounter with a cow pie.
