Obviously the Brains are prone to catching on to running gags, but have any of them worn out their welcome? Here's my list: -NEIL!!! (Leech Woman) -Chief? McCloud? (Pod People) -Pile on Pete (Painted Hills)

Hmmm... tricky question, and likely one that'll run into "one MSTie's trash is another MSTie's treasure" territory, but...
"I thought you were Dale" is something I only enjoy because of its trivial obscurity. I know that'll make it funnier to some people, but for me it's just kinda lackluster. I wouldn't say that it hurts an episode anytime I hear it, but it doesn't really add anything to the humor for me.

My issue with the Daleisms is that they confused two different commercials and then kept using the riff in the mistaken context.

I'm likely in the minority here, but most of the running jokes in Riding with Death were kind of annoying for me. I'm still undecided as to whether I like or dislike that one (certainly not a favorite though) but personally, the biggest problem I have is that the jokes about Ben Murphy, mellowness and turkeys felt more obnoxious than funny to me and really outstayed their welcome. Don't get me wrong, I'm aware the goofiness of the 70s can be ripe for satire, but I don't know, the way it was done in Riding with Death just rubs me the wrong way somehow.

This thread reminds me of the first host segment of Teenagers From Outer Space, where Joel is ribbing the 'bots for the belaboured running gag about NBC Mystery Movie flashlights www.youtube.com/watch?v=vnOzPbjM4cQ&t=1m33s

This thread reminds me of the first host segment of Teenagers From Outer Space, where Joel is ribbing the 'bots for the belaboured running gag about NBC Mystery Movie flashlights Heh. Totally. I guess Joel decided it had run its course. Too bad Mike couldn't get to the bots before they unleashed their own favorite running joke. I guess you could say it's too bad Mike couldn't get ahead of Thunderdome. My issue with the Daleisms is that they confused two different commercials and then kept using the riff in the mistaken context. I get what you're saying, though that's one of the oddities about running jokes that I think makes them notable in the world of humor styles. Each time you tell the joke, it calls on the context of what's come before, and it creates its own sort of inertia as the accretion of more instances builds up. To fix that particular running joke, they'd need a good amount of humor to counteract the pre-existing comedic inertia.

"Chief? McCloud?" will be forever linked with fond memories of watching MST for me.
If some have been overdone I don't really remember them. I only seem to remember the ones I like.
* By this time my lungs were aching for air. * Watch out for snakes! * Any iteration of the Gamera song.
I can't think of any that really overdo it, but I need to go back and watch the series again. It's been awhile.

"ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL!!!!!" (from 'Laserblast')
The problem I always had with this running gag is there was really nothing in the film that provoked it in the first place.

One of the characters looked really similar to the guy that sings that song. Not sure if you already knew that and just meant that none of the characters talked about football, but that's why they said it.

Attica! Yep that one is overdone to the point of being annoying.

Agreed about the football gag as well. And Attica. And I have literally watched Final Justice once (when it premiered) because the Joe Don jokes were driven into the ground. The jokes in Mitchell were perfect, Final Justice was overkill and mean.

From the Gamera movies...
"tonight on Yuasa, a very special episode of...Swamp Thing"
"Do not bring your evil here."

I LOVE that bit. My other favorite one that probably annoys some people is WOO PACKERS WON THE SUPERBOWL in all kinds of different tones throughout Giant Spider Invasion. As a Wisconsin resident who couldn't care less about the Packers, it really rings true.
