Does the set list who owns the rights to the movies? I haven't received mine yet, but photos I've seen from it definitely have copyright holders printed on it.

Looking through blurry plastic wrap, I seem to have deciphered some of it.
Reptilicus, Time Travelers, Beast of Hollow Mountain, Land That Time Forgot, Yonggary, and At the Earth's Core are MGM. Avalanche, Starcrash, Wizards of the Lost Kingdom, and Wizards of the Lost Kingdom II are Vista International. The Christmas That Almost Wasn't is illegible so far, but it says "C......... Corporation." Loves of Hercules is Shout Factory (smart asses).
Cry Wilderness and Carnival Magic are unlisted.

Wait, upon re-inspection there seems to be a mistake. The outside box claims that Avalanche, Starcrash, and Wizards 1&2 are Visto, but the interior case claims those four are New Horizons while Cry Wilderness is Visto.

Visto created Cry Wilderness and it appears they were involved with another MST'ed film, Warrior of the Lost World. I'm actually surprised they're still alive, seeing as they haven't done anything since the '80's.
Nice that Shout was able to get Corman to cooperate with the new season.

That mystery gift is a real letdown, I am so glad I did not go for it. How much was it as an add-on? $100?
As a tier, it was $50 more than the $150 level. So it was either a blu-ray release of 14 episodes with bonus features for $50 (less than the price of a MST3K volume release which contains 4 DVD episodes) or a weird bot hybrid from what is the modern day Beanie Babies overproduced and oversaturated tchotchke.
I've seen people on the MST3K reddit complaining about the gift, only to get down voted and told "if you don't want it, i'll take it" or "just sell it on ebay, i've seen then go for $100". But my issue is, the mystery gift was something a lot of people were anticipating and they wanted to keep it. Not get something and then go through the process of listing it on ebay and having to package it and head to the post office.
The Joel signature is a nice addition, but it's in relation to a certificate for a Funko Pop.

It makes me wonder if that was supposed to be the Mystery Gift in the first place or if it changed, because...man oh man is that ever lame and not at all commiserate with the price.

Ivan confirmed on Facebook that it was always supposed to be the mystery gift. It was accidentally sold in a few territories like New Zealand before Joel and Shout found out and instantly recalled it. It was never meant for mass production. Ultimately the issue with a mystery gift is that it was...well, a mystery. A collectible figurine is highly sought after in collector's circles, but in the hands of the wrong person it's just a worthless toy. The figure has value if you're a toy or Funko collector. If you're not, you feel like you just got a donkey on Let's Make a Deal. But that's the risk you took, and at the end of the day that's what is in your hand. The key difference is that in the right hands this is actually an amazing prize. It's all eye of the beholder.

Yeah, I guess. Though I personally don't think a mystery gift should be like Let's Make A Deal's ZONK! prize where you may or may not get a bad gift. I was thinking it would be something universally enjoyed by fans, like a piece of Jonah's jumpsuit in a little frame signed by Jonah and Joel, or a SOL model or a prop from the show.
In any case, I can't wait for the blu-ray! I'm only missing 3 episodes for a complete on-disc collection of the series (waiting on that vol 9 reissue, though I have "backups" of the Rhino discs on my harddrive).

Since Roger lost around $60 million in an apparent Ponzi scheme in 2015, he's been very cooperative.

I was thinking it would be something universally enjoyed by fans, like a piece of Jonah's jumpsuit in a little frame signed by Jonah and Joel, or a SOL model or a prop from the show. The problem is that less things are universally enjoyed than one would think. Even still had they gone with the jumpsuit in a frame idea, you'd still get people who would complain "Eww...Jonah's junk touched this" and people looking at it going "Why would I want this rag?" An SOL model would probably be seen the same as a toy, while props from the show aren't created equal. Some would be amazing, others would be crummy pieces. Even if, let's say, that VHS prize was used as the mystery box it would mostly appeal to those who lived in the tape trading days while more modern MSTies would be puzzled, wondering "Did this cost 30 cents? What's so special about this?" Ultimately I always felt the mystery gift was going to set people up for disappointment no matter what, because people's imaginations ran wild and what they got was something simplistic. I always knew it was going to be something like this, I just didn't know what. Is a repaint figure worth a $200 pledge? Kinda. You'd really have to know people who live in that toy collecting world to know it's real value, and I've met a few who are both drooling over this and/or kicking themselves for not selecting it. There are rare repaints of Star Wars figures that are highly sought after and valuable, and while MST isn't Star Wars by a wide margin our relatively small fan base is just as rabid and passionate, and those who collect toys love this thing. Personally if I had gone for the Funko Pop, I would have been more excited for a complete cast collection that included Jonah, Kinga, and Max, but that's just me. Specialty repaints don't excite me. But if I did have it I personally would appreciate the value of it.
