I'm very sad that there is one MST3K that seems to be missing forever. For some reason, one is worse than three!
Beyond excited that Joel/Shout is giving us these first two formerly lost episodes though!

I think this was noted in when mst3k.com put host segment clips out, but it's definitely Josh playing Crow in this episode. Add in his brief turn as the character in Gamera, I guess this makes him an official Crow. But since Trace played him in Green Slime I suppose he's still the original.

Yeah, a couple of hiccups here and there. There isn't anything major so far. I'm at the first host segment.

I shouldn't be surprised, but Josh really spikes up the riff quota once he enters the theater. He even has Joel cracking up at some points.

This is all kinds of awesome! I'm gonna download both of them and watch soon. Hmm, you think Skyroniter might be willing to make new DVD fan copies from these?

Sky is very against tape trading epsiodes that are officially released, and he never copies official products. One could make the argument that this isn't widely released since it's just in a small group circle for now, but it would still be copying something that's officially released by a studio in good faith. It's a bit of a conundrum. But I'm sure the episodes will be spread around unofficially at some point in the (likely near) future, but honestly I don't think it will be by him.

I don't think Joel and Crow exited the theater before the second host segment.

I'm very sad that there is one MST3K that seems to be missing forever. For some reason, one is worse than three! Maybe he's just planning on doing this like it was originally done in 1988 with K03 following a few days after K01 and K02.

Ooh, the first MST3K political joke! Referring to Commander Sam Shore (one of the Supermarionation characters in "Invaders from the Deep"), Crow says "he reminds me of a certain governor of Massachusetts". That would be a reference to Michael Dukakis, who (when this episode aired) had just been defeated by George H. W. Bush in the 1988 presidential election.

Is there a way to purchase these episodes for those of us that didn't go with that exact form of Kickstarter participation? I just went for the Blu-Ray add-on. I'd hate to be left out. You can buy the #BROUGHTBACKMST3K BONUS COLLECTION: DELUXE EDITION from the VHX store. It lists 12 episodes including K01 and K02. Of course it costs $1,000 to buy.

Finished Invaders from the Deep. Really enjoyed it. People who dislike the KTMA era obviously should avoid, but I got some great chuckles out of it.
Minor final thoughts:
In addition to Crow being played by Josh in this episode, Servo is never seen nor mentioned outside of the opening credits. Beeper is briefly mentioned but never seen.
It's been a while since I've seen anything Gerry and Silvia Anderson (I used to watch Thunderbirds as a kid), so watching Stingray was interesting and nostalgic. Considering some of the crap children's programming from the 1960s I've seen, these things do stand tall and proud. Personally the stories didn't do much for me, but I enjoyed the elaborate set design and imagination.
I liked the reused host segments from Green Slime, though I will say I think Green Slime pulled them off better.
The Electric Bagpipes and the Airbag Helmet were both Invention Exchanges during season one.
Josh was the MVP of the episode. Joel plays around with a bit of uncertainty during the first theater segment, making minor remarks at best, then kind of rides the "At the movies" concept with the popcorn and soda. When Josh comes in with the Crow puppet the episode starts getting funnier and things seem to be firing at a more rapid pace. Joel may have created the show, but the show as we know it might have formed out of what Josh was able to do in this episode, making him the unsung hero of the series.
When you think about it, this entire first episode was entirely on Joel and Josh's shoulders. Nobody else is featured at all, outside of the movie. I look forward to the "notes" Joel took about the episode that he promised he'd share, maybe we'll get some insight as to why Trace is absent.
That was a great way to spend the evening. I'm going to save Revenge of the Mysterons for tomorrow because I need to get to bed for an early shift tomorrow morning. But thank you Joel! This has been the highlight of this grim Black Friday.

Just finished K01. I'm amazed first of all at the quality of the video: after getting used to seeing third- and fourth-generation fan copies of the other KTMA shows, K01 and K02 look great! There were a few glitches here and there, but nothing serious. Since the original tape was likely the ONLY existing copy, I'm very glad that it was so well preserved.
Seeing the episode finally answered one of the big questions I had about the origins of Servo/Beeper: neither robot appears in this episode at all, though Beeper is mentioned by name. I was also surprised to see that Josh Weinstein voiced Crow in this episode; as far as I know, that makes him the only MST3K performer to voice all three of the robots (though not in the same episode).
A few other random "firsts":
The first character killed on-screen in a MSTed movie: a plastic toy fish on wheels
The first inventions: a "man-eating plant" (a houseplant decorated with chattering teeth) and an "airbag for motorcyclists" (an inflatable beach ball mounted on top of a motorcycle helmet). Also, the bagpipes from #101 make their first appearance, at the end of the episode.
