So I play Star Wars - The Old Republic, a fun MMORPG that seems, sadly, to be slipping away more and more each day. Anyway, today they just released an expansion, and yesterday, the most hardcore members of my Imperial Guild, the largest guild on my server, was having a discussion about the implications of this new material and the shockingly significant changes it would bring to the individual classes, and as such, our characters.
So they were talking for about 30 minutes getting very animated, talking about which classes would be good, which would suffer, which would not be worth playing, which would be good in pvp etc. Eventually, the discussion turned to what they were looking for when they created their characters, and what they should be. It got very involved and obscure, not to mention contentious and troublingly cynical. (Essential information, when you create a character, you choose a particular class for that character. Prior to this expansion, after playing a few levels, you would be asked to pick a subclass and then a specialization based on the subclass you chose. IE. You could decide that you want your Republic trooper to be a healer, for instance) Wanting to lighten up the mood, I decided to share my very real reasons for picking the particular specialization I did for my sith assassin. I simply said:
"I picked Hatred" (the specialization) "because it had the skill Creeping Terror. Now if they add a new skill The Beast of Yucca Flats, I'll be totally satisfied."
That half-hour discussion that had been raging along with no end in sight stopped DEAD at that.
