He died yesterday, had a heart attack while playing hockey with his son (Carter, not Robin). Was 65, (Edit: 69) I believe. RIP Dr. Jason Seaver.

After this news broke I listened to this theme song for the first time in well over a decade.
Used to watch Growing Pains all the time when I was a kid. This was of course before I knew Kirk Cameron was batty. But I do have fond memories of Thicke from that series.

Alan Thicke was always sort of my ideal sitcom actor. Dignified, but not unapproachable. Classy and by the book, but not stuck in a rut like 1950s sitcom dads. And able to sincerely sing pretty well too, something that more actors need to learn how to do. My sister told me he died, and my first thought was that "No, that can't be right..."
