I watched it yesterday night, and was thrilled to finally see some of the bits and pieces we've been shown over the last couple of months come together. Great start to the new series! I didn't really have any nit-picks, except perhaps, as many have already mentioned, that some of the riffs came a little too fast and furious. Perhaps on multiple viewings this won't be such an issue, but it took me some time to adapt to this "new style".
The host segments were good fun, if on the short side (with the exception of the song, which was a lot of fun). I was also hoping to see a little more of the mads, but I guess we'll get that in the upcoming episodes. I was quite happy with everyone's performance, they captured the spirit of the original perfectly. The new doorway sequence is very cool and I like the overall visual aesthetic (although, as has been pointed out, the bridge set could use some more work). I liked the completely silly "intro" bit with the new theme song, I wonder if they keep doing that kind of thing throughout the season. Pretty cool to see more of Gizmonics (and some of its employees) as well.
As far as how the bots got back on the ship... Does it really matter? Maybe they'll touch on it later, or maybe they'll just leave it an unsolved mystery. Personally, I don't care that much which route they take with that, the show was never heavy on background stuff anyway. I'm just happy they're back up there (and besides, we all know the real story of how they got back... we simply raised the funds to make it happen!).
All in all, I'm very happy with what I saw, and can't wait to see the rest of the shows. One of the few Kickstarters I'm proud to have backed (but then, how could I resist...). Thumbs up to the team and keep circulating the word!

Loved it! Very possibly one of the least disappointing experiences I've had in my adult life, and by that I mean expectations vs actual turn out. I really don't think a MSTie could ask for much more. I just had the biggest grin on my face the entire opening sequence.
I agree with most everyone's comments. But, my one big real complaint--NONE of our comments matter cuz the whole season is already shot and in the can. So we can all talk about it, but it won't effect ANYTHING until at least next season.
Anywhoos, some of my thoughts anyway--
* Everyone fit very nicely into their roles. I loved the TV's son of TV's frank exchange. "Can't you just give me this one thing?" "Noooo."
* I'm not a huge Felicia Day fan, but this part fits her perfectly--trying too hard, over-the-top energy, kind of manic...
* I'm pretty disappointed and surprised and how bad the puppetry was. This is something that might actually improved as we move through the season. But man, Crow was really bad. His mouth especially. And in the theater, it was like he wasn't even trying. He would open his mouth for a whole riff line--it made a Gamera dub look great in comparison. If this was the level they could achieve with 'modern' methods, why didn't they just stick with guys under the table?
* As many have mentioned, the new SOL set is pretty bland. To me it almost comes off looking like a green screen fake. Kit bashing would have been much cooler. And the HD (which was great for the movie and the in theater) just makes it stand out more.
* I wasn't a big fan of the song, like they were trying too hard, but overall, the host segments were fun.
* I wonder if Invention exchanges are really back, or if that was just one-off for a call back joke.
* The commercial bumpers were GREAT. I've always liked the bumpers. I like how they're in the middle of theater segments. It really helps break the movie up.
* The Gypsy in theater segments were fine, but were way too fast. You don't really catch her riff because you're too busy wondering what she's doing. It would have been better if she came down, dropped off her gear, turned and watched the movie for a few seconds, and then made a riff on something she just saw.
* I didn't even think about where Tom and Crow came from. I mean it's in the SOL on MST3K, of course Tom and Crow are there.
* The tone was great. I hope they're all like this. You could watch this ep with anyone. For example, there were no dick jokes, which I've noticed RiffTrax resorts to about 14 times per movie these days.
* Jonah fit right in. The bot voices were fine. It was pretty hard to distinguish who said a lot. I wish Baron would have gone just a bit lower with his Tom voice.
* I didn't mind the riff speed. It actually reminded me alot of an ICWXP. They like to really jab the riff in there. I don't know who else out there is like me, but I've watched quite a few RiffTrax Presents and some of the iRiffs out there, so I'm actually already used to other riff groups, so that part really didn't phase me at all.
* I really wish we lived in an entertainment world where they could have made and put these out on a slower pace, and the show could grow more organically. I have to think that other than some of the riff delivery and puppetry, what we saw in 1101 is what the whole season is going to be like. I mean, how could it not be, they shot all of it back to back in mere weeks.
* I can't wait for more--although I plan on watching them slowly. Like even less than one a week. I'm going to savor all of these.
Welcome back MST3K!!!!

Much like the transformation of the SOL set from Season One to Season Two, I think they could easily start gluing stuff to the walls for Season 12 if they wanted to. The new door sequence really has a Gerry Anderson Thunderbirds look to it. And the "extras" in the background at Gizmonics looked like Supermarionation puppets. Joel is a big fan of course.

One nice thing about kickstarter helping fund the whole season is the fact that we will get a whole season. I am so tired of watching shows getting canceled after only one or two episodes. I honestly wont start a new show anymore til it finishes a season for that very reason.

Loved this new episode and just realized, as per Project Update #48, that we'll have access to the rest over night tonight? Am I reading this right?
"On TUESDAY, APRIL 11th, at 12:01 am ET, all backers who get the new episodes will be able to start streaming the new episodes from your VHX accounts for 48 hours."
They, of course, fixed the typos in Update #49 to say that all times would be PT...but we'll be knee deep in new MST3k by tomorrow, right?
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In my excitement about 1101 I forgot we were getting to stream the rest early.

I wonder if they will list the episode's title in the playlist, or have it mark #1102, #1103, etc. to keep the movie a surprise until you play the episode. Going to be really hard for me to ignore these and wait til Friday so I can watch them on Netflix, but I don't think I could watch the other 13 episodes in three days anyway. I already sat through Reptilicus twice, I want to keep the rest of the episodes fresh. But I might check a little bit of 1102 out tomorrow.

This came as a (very pleasant) surprise to me, too.
Of course, even if those of us in this bracket do watch the episodes early, it would behoove everyone to also watch them on Netflix if at all possible. The more eyeballs, the greater the chances of a season 12. Even if that means running the episodes in the background on your computer or TV while doing other things.

Give each ep a first dedicated watch in whatever format is convenient, then let the eps stream a bunch on Netflix in the background while I'm doing work and the like.

Very possibly one of the least disappointing experiences I've had in my adult life This needs to be used in all the press packets going forward. This line is my single favorite review so far. I laughed out loud. Thank YOU for backing!

Oh, so my pet theory that I've had since the trailer -- I think the minion in the hazmat suit that sends up the movie is Joel--his face is completely covered, and I think I can recognize Joel's voice in his one muffled line. Plus it just fits perfectly how Joel would do his 'cameo'.

Yep. Joel confirmed that was him in the Q&A.
