It was good to see good 'ol Herc again being mocked! The riffing in this one was pretty funny! "Speak!" "ARF!" and I liked the jokes with the Italian accents, the Fozzie Bear reference and callback to Warriors of the Lost World. (Any FRUIT to declare?). The host segments were decent, but a little too short. I didn't get the joke to the last segment though. For some reason, it made me think of 2001 Space Oddysey. Overall, a good episode. The joke in the last segment is supposed to be that they are imitating the operatic vocals at the end of the movie, but it's hard to hear the movie over Jonah and the 'bots.

A WILDLY inconsistent episode. The Prologue and Segment 1 are really good. The movie starts out pretty strong. But once they get towards them middle of the film, the riffing gets REALLY slow because there's a lot of movie dialogue and they simply refuse to riff unless there's a discernable, long pause. And the rest of the sketches are forgettable. Fun callback in the Mads' experiment. Crow's jaw works REALLY well in the Prologue and Segment 1 and his eyes move!...but then...every other sketch its back to skewing off to the side and frozen eyes. Baron's Tom can't do a wide range of impression to save his life. He can do Kermit the Frog, a vaguely German voice...he thinks he can do Dennis Miller (its really bad, at least I THINK that's him, but who can tell the difference in their voices anymore?)... and every other impression he does is crap. He tried to do a Lawrence Welk and it sounded like crap. And every line he delivers that ISN'T sung or an impersonation is said in one of two ways: Understated and flat. Or AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE and ends in an annoying vocal fry (look it up). The episode ends on the most annoying note of ANY episode, past or possible future. It goes like this: Tom sings the Beauty and the Beast Theme. Literally, he sings nearly the whole thing. 3 minutes of singing over one of the goofier scenes in the film. And it isn't funny. Then everyone starts yelling because the music has swelled. And they all yell until the movie ends. 2 full minutes later. Then in Segment 5...they're still yelling. And they keep yelling. And then cut to Moon 13. THEY'RE YELLING. AND ITS NOT FUNNY IN THE LEAST! Overall, a mediocre-to-bad episode. The episodes seemed to be getting better, then plateaued, and are now going back downhill. Wow. Are you me? Those are my exact thoughts. I wish they were more positive, but what are you gonna do.

I was avoiding this one because I don't love any of the other Herc episodes I have seen. I really loved it. Very funny throughout and a great ending although I can see why some folks are bothered by it. I was laughing like crazy. The new series continues to surprise me.

Horrible. I'm finding myself going back to the classic episodes to cleanse my pallet more and more.

Watching episode now. My real-time comments, and fav riffs: Comments: * Man, I haven’t seen “Wings” in years. I’m surprised MST3K would reference it. Nice Paul McCartney joke. * Missed Riff opportunity: One of the actors has the last name “Hargitay”, and not a single Law & Order: SVU reference. * Sorta dirty riff: “… Except Milk Duds!” (it’s only dirty if you’re a Whose Line fan, where “Milk Duds” can have a different meaning. * A Caddyshack reference is always ok in my book! * Servo’s complaint about Jenga reminds me of Crow whining about Rock, Paper, Scissors way back in Season 1’s “The Crawling Hand”. * Shouldn’t it have been Servo, not Crow complaining about a woman not wearing underwear? I mean, he’s the one with an underwear fetish. * Actual dirty riff: “He’s gonna bounce right off you!” * Uhhh Max, we were all aware the theater was called the Mystery Science Theater…. * One of my complaints about Jonah was that he doesn’t really have a distinct personality apart from Joel or Mike. Initially he just came off as Joel 2.0 to me, but as of recent it seems they’ve tried to develop him into a “Know-Nothing-Know-It-All” character. It works. * Movie complaint: I know that “Zeus” and “Jupiter” are kind of the same thing, but…. the filmmakers know Jupiter is a ROMAN God, right, not a Greek God? * Did Crow say “Like my Sphinx”, or “Like my spanx”? * Sadly-still-relavent movie line: “Only a man may hold the reigns of government.” * Have not seen the other episodes yet, but I’m assuming we haven’t seen the last of Waverly. Fav. Riffs: * “It’s PETA! They found us!” * “And, tomorrow was my birthday, too!” (character dies) * “All these stairs. I should have brought my slinky.” * “Purple hair… purple hair…” * “And, Action! Don’t look at the camera! Cut!” * “Like being attacked by a Mardi Gras float.” * “Looks like McDonald’s Play Place has gone to crap.” * “TICKLE FIGHT!” * “Gary Busey!”

Should we start a "Bring Back Waverly" campaign?

Should we start a "Bring Back Waverly" campaign? I'm assuming this means he doesn't appear in any other episodes.

I've fallen behind on my comments re: the new shows. I just hope I can remember them accurately.
As I recall, this is one of the lesser Herc movies, with Mickey Hargitay not providing any threat to Steve Reeves as the quintessential Herc. Add in the poor production values and lousy script (Herc, the mourning process should take longer than thirty seconds) and it's not even up to "Hercules in New York" standards. (By the way, any chance for that one next season?) I will say, though, that Jayne Mansfield does try for a good performance. Dubbed voice aside, she's clearly trying for a regal, damsel-in-distress look for Deianera, while vamping it up as Hippolyta. The episode itself was OK. I thought the riffing was good, though I was surprised there wasn't at least one Ed Ames joke during the axe throwing scene. I thought Max's reaction during the Invention Exchange was very Frank-like, and I figure we haven't seen the last of M. Waverly. (Watch, he'll show up next season and say it's now Ms. Waverly, like in NuWho.) And I didn't mind the closing bit, since it's a neat parody of the end of pretty much every Italian sword & sandal flick.
I thought this one turned out OK, actually.

I love these Italian sword and sandals movies for MST3K, so I'm real happy with this one - but man: is Hargitay a horrible Herc!

Watching this one again, I totally got an old school MST3k feel from the opening skit/invention exchange (I love how intensely Kinga yells "ENOUGH!" at Max).
And I appreciate the Waverly skit even more after meeting him in person at one of the live shows. Any skit where Crow & Tom turn on other robots is hilarious to me.
One thing is for sure, all of these peplum/sword & sandal films become even more confusing when edited down to fit MST's run time.

Such a far cry from the original Hercules efforts - even with a pair of subpar turns there - that the disappointment in this one is monumental.
The jokes are much more miss than hit and the senseless 501 callback drew the initial irritation which only then accumulated and peaked at the witless singing and shouting near the end of which there was absolutely nothing funny at all. That loathsome act most fittingly bringing this nosedive of an lowest-rating episode down to the ground in a fatal wreck of bitter ashes and twisted metal housing for the singed corpse inside which was once before a promising pilot to fly this episode to great heights. Instead, it sucked then promptly died.
This is the kind of episode I feared when I caught myself getting too excited at the prospect of an 11th season. So to see it unfold for real put a scar upon my MST3K heart, and my hope is that nothing even remotely close to this effort is ever revisited by the new crew again. Even the beloved Patton Oswalt, the best of the bunch, turned me off at the opening of this one.
Scraping this one off the runway and cursing for better skies ahead

I liked the movie. I liked the Riffs. I love Kinga and Max. The ending was terrible.
This is and never will be classic MST3K (Seasons 2-6), but if you are a modern riff watcher--watching RiffTrax and Cinematic Titanic and iRiffs like ICWXP or QuipTrax or Rifftrax Presents with Matthew J Elliot & Ian Potter or Cole Stratton & Janet Varney or Mary Jo & Bridget--it's better than any of those. (and I like quite a few of those.)
Every line of Crow's Italian accented parody of Herc was hilarious.

The grandiose singing at the end seems to be pretty controversial among fans. Some people loved it, others hated it. Personally, I was laughing my head off. I'm not sure it would tickle me so much on a second viewing, but at the time, it seemed like the perfect end to an entirely witless movie.
The other big laugh was the whole "mad bull" scene. It was funny all on its own, but Crow's line -- something like "That cow has murder in its eye!" -- just sealed the deal. Could they have found a more docile and harmless-looking animal for Herc to beat up on?
That said, this wasn't one of the best episodes of Season 11. Overall I would probably rate it a B- or C+.
