So, if Pearl has been screwing around with cloning (Clonus?), maybe that explains how she was able to reraise Clayton then survive centuries into the future when apes dominated the Earth and seemingly de-age in the process?
HEADCANON!
Not sure how I feel about Synthia. Rebecca's mannerisms were inconsistent from one moment to the next. She acted like some robot at first then became more like a ditzy Pearl at the end of the sketch. I need to see more of her to get a feel.
What a movie. I remember when I first saw the leaked episode list, this one really stood out to me. I was secretly looking forward to this one and boy did it not disappoint. The riffing had me on the floor at first, but I felt like it died down as they tried to quicken their momentum like Reptilicus. However I need to give it another watch when it hits Netflix, because I watched half of it while I was at lunch at work.
Last note: hated the bubbles. It was obvious why they were there and it was distracting. But I wasn't fond of the Invention Exchange in this episode in general, so maybe they just edged indifference into annoyance.

I'm definitely grooving more to this season's latitudes with the second episode, although it's possible that the ABSOLUTE PERFECTION of this movie has something to do with it. Just manna from heaven. It also looked quite good, I must say. For a long time it seemed like the Blu-ray(s) of MST3K: The Movie would be the only time we'd get this show in widescreen and HD, but I'm glad it wasn't - it works very well. The more chaotic riffing style seems here to stay, but I'm cottoning to it more. Strong episode.
I was highly looking forward to the cameo from the Sci-fi mads and...yechh. I don't know where the blame lies, but they were wildly unsuccessful at capturing their original look. How can they possibly justify that Bobo costume? And I have to echo the sentiment about using bubbles as connective tissue for fragmented takes. That's just shoddy.

I definately liked the host segments more this time, they certainly flowed a bit better then they did in episode 1. However I will say I found the riffing to be pretty forced at the start but as the episode went along it losened up and got a lot funnier as a result. The liquid video glitches.....not a fan but not a deal breaker your any means, probably better if they get ditched next season I think. The cameo by Pearl, Bobo and Brain Guy was nice to see felt a little rushed...particularly from a production design stance......also is it just me or did Bobo look oddly orange?
Okay all my moaning aside I did like the episode, but I definately felt like it was a bit rough around the edges and was a reminder that the show is still re-establishing itself!

Two episodes in this is my take.
While Rifftrax and The Film Crew and ICWXP and Cinematic Titanic are all great. They weren't MST3K
What else can I say...This is Mystery Science Theater 3000

So far, this is my favorite of the new eps. . .but then i've only seen two! Such a bizarre movie. It almost felt foreign, except I don't think it was. The Michael McDonald riff towards the end had me dying!
And I'll concur with BiLumberg in that while I have gotten my share of laughs from Rifftrax and even Cinematic Titanic, THIS is the goods.

Yeah I was wondering that too, but I think the acting was just so bad they had to ADR most of the main character's lines. "Let the poorly dubbed adults go in first!"

Suddenly I'm no longer the biggest grump about the new episodes so far.....honestly though the show is trying to rebuild itself from the ground up, teething problems are bound to be expected. I though most of us feared the the end results could have been far worse and it's bound to get more confident over time!

And here I thought I'd seen every bad Bigfoot/Yeti movie ever. This was worse. (In a good way.) And that attempted raccoon strangling was the most disturbing thing done to a real animal in any experiment since the infamous Catching Trouble short. Nobody could round up an old VW bus for the widowmaker? (I live in Southern California, and see them on the road fairly often.) And either Bobo had a lot of Botox, or the makeup was really not good. Odd he would be wearing his old Deep Ape outfit after all these years, but I suppose he could be working staff at that zoo he went off to at the end of season 10.

I'm not gonna fault them for not being able to match Bobo's makeup exactly. That kinda thing is more easily said than done.

The biggest issue I have with Bobo's makeup was how orange it looked....looks like Bobo has jaundice!

Well it's not make-up, it's a mask, right? Seems to me they just did a poor job of replicating it. I don't know what Beez's limitations were in time/money, but the original costume simply looked of a higher caliber. The issue is not HD, because the original costume looked great in production photos as well. Obviously, it's a trivial issue overall, but it's just too bad, especially because of this. In contrast, Bill looks on point. The orange might just be the lighting. For instance, the Observer hood looks like a much brighter purple here, but it wouldn't surprise me if the color is exactly the same as the original in real life.
