Ops, and I meant mask too....but yeah I agree he looked worse, but the colouring was what really got under my skin the most. However you might be right about the lighting though.

If I may make a point: Kevin's nearly 20 years older than he was when he last played Bobo and he's only back doing a quick cameo. Make-up like the one he used to go through is a pretty long affair, and A. He might just not want to go through it again and B. They just didn't have time to be thorough.
The mask he's wearing is distracting, but I assumed it was for one of he reasons above and I'm mostly okay with it.

I had to take a break after that host segment with the cameos by Pearl, Brain Guy and Bobo. Aside from the shoddy van set and distracting make-up/costumes, the reason for them being there was SO forced. I hated Kinga's punchline: "It's so hard to bridge the old season with the new one". If anything this cameo made the connection between the last seasons more tenuous...First misstep of the reboot for me.
On the positive side, while the riffing pace is maybe too rushed, at least the jokes are excellent and I can already pick out each of the guys' voices! Their chemistry is very apparent.

I actually didn't mind Kevin's mask/make-up... it very much reminded me of the later lower-budgeted PLANET OF THE APES sequels, so it turned out an unintentional homage to me.

Roddy McDowall was about ten years older when he donned Planet Of The Apes makeup one last time recording host segments for the movies edited from the short lived tv series. (Would be fun if the show could get a few of those!) Age really isn't a factor in getting the makeup right, especially when it covers half your face. The rigors of even shooting a brief cameo scene probably meant they were on the set for a day. And Bill had to shave his beard to play Brain Guy again. The funny thing is the bad Bobo face reminds me of the cheap inarticulate pullover masks used for the extras in Beneath The Planet of the Apes. The filmmakers really goofed in letting those be seen too close to the camera.

Cameo and pre-riffing aside, this episode was incredibly strong. Funnier than a lot of the classic episodes.

Age may not affect makeup, but patience does affect the makeup process. Just ask Ron Perlman. Kevin may very well have said "Okay I'll do it, but you better streamline the hell out of that monkey makeup or I'm out" because at his age he probably just didn't want to put up with it.

Another fun time. It almost seems like I'm back in 1992 catching a new episode. It's not the same feel, but how the hell can it be? Did anyone really think this would be CC or SciFi revived? It's been almost 20 years. I'm satisfied with what it is.
That said, the movie was a piece of something. The riffing was good, some hearty laughs. Host segments do still feel rushed. But, again, it's a new cast, a new network, a new feel, etc.
If this this or 1101 is as good as it gets, my money was well spent.

Ron Perlman is awesome! He donned the full Hellboy makeup and costume for Make A Wish a few years back. As it seems Pearl and company will be dropping in once in a while, maybe they'll improve the mask next season.

God, this movie. This is one of those great discoveries MST makes. I mean, something like Reptilicus is already fairly well known. Was this movie partially funded by some state park to be shown into perpetuity at the visitor center's kid section? That's what it feels like.

Better than the last ep. I laughed frequently at the start, though either it (or I) lost steam down the stretch. I liked the cameo... Oh, and what nice timing to get an Easter riff. So I've seen one weak ep (1101), one that was good (1102) and one that was fantastic (I skipped ahead and caught 1104 last night). So far it's a mixed bag - I'm neither a Pollyanna or a hater at this point. But I think I'll take a wee break from the show, maybe watch that Documentary they (Netflix) have on Floyd Norman next.

Phew....glad they didn't completely lose MJ! For what it's worth, through the first 7 eps. I think Reptilicus is near the bottom for me. Almost all of the others are much better, except for some reason I just couldn't get into Beast of Hollow Mountain. (But I know there are others who loved it.)

On the cameo front: Max excitedly waving to Bobo was adorable, and Brain Guy's "and they call this the not-to-distand future!" line was great.

Liked the last host segment with Max almost falling for the bot's disguise. I thought the riffing was better handled in this episode but Reptilicus was the better movie(even with the worse monster effects).

LOVED this episode! I had never heard of this movie before, it's like FINAL SACRIFICE had a baby with BOGGY CREEK 2. Great riffing all around! Lol Agree! Well riffed and the movie itself is wonderfully bonkers.
