A lot of people have brought up a moment at 38:20 into the movie. A large piece of camera equipment comes into frame from the right. Jonah and the Bots react to it.
That's a joke, not an accident. The camera equipment is in color - it's part of the movie. Jonah and the Bots are reacting to something seen onscreen in the movie that maybe shouldn't be there.
I liked this one - much better than Reptilicus.

Looked like part of a steadicam rig to me. Amazing this flick could afford one.

I think Pearl is just uncomfortable with the concept of "love," especially an unconditional family love which she doesn't seem to understand. It's a sort of "yes, we're family but why does that mean I have to care about you?" I think she's shown "love" to three things during the series, one was Frank, which was a "BFF girlfriend and gossip" affection, while the other two were Howard the hunk and George Clooney, and that's a different kind of love altogether. She was also very fond of Art.

Thoughts:
- The cameos were simultaneously fun and spot on (voices and some of the costuming) and at the same time a little sad and not good (some of the costuming and most of the 'plot'). It made me miss Pearl, Bobo, and Brain Guy. I know a lot of people disparage their years, but I think by the time they settled into Castle Forrester and their characters, they were as much fun as Dr F and Frank.
- The movie - eeh. I know a lot of people are liking this ep more than Reptilicus, but not me. This movie was very much a RiffTrax level movie. Had some fun weird moments, but just didn't do it for me.
- Sadly, most of the host segs were pretty forgettable too. So, what's up with these truncated segments? I swear that racoon parody segment, though funny, lasted literally less time than the door sequences to and from it. As others have mentioned, how are we ever supposed to get a feel for the new Tom and Crow and Jonah, if they don't do anything interesting outside of the theater.
- The bubble cuts--total crap. MST3K host segments are totally about single-camera, single-take Saturday matinee host segments. Look, I know the old show had cuts too, but man what a LAZY way to do it. Cut back to the SOL crew giving the Mads funny looks or something. Jeesh.
- Overall, this ep left me a little less excited about the relaunch. Yes, it's more MST3K, but if they new chars and segments don't grow on me, and the movie riffing is just fast punchy one-liner riffing, then I'm just watching new eps of RiffTrax / ICWXP / whatever other random riffing engines that have been out there now for years.

Saw this Saturday night at a live screening hosted by Jonah, Baron and Hampton. What a blast. First time seeing MST3K as part an audience and really enjoyed the experience. The crowd was great. The crew did a Q&A after the show and you can see that they really have a good chemistry together. Hope we get some more seasons because these guys are ready.

Hey! Haven't posted on the boards since about 2010 (I know), but I just wanted to say that I was one of the writers for the episode and I'm really happy to see everybody's reactions to it. It was a dream come true to write for MST3K and I'm so glad to have been a part of it!!!

Definitely seeing improvement over the first episode. Crow and Servo are getting better at using some range in their voices, something sorely lacking from 1101.
"Isn't this the radio I got you last Christmas?" "Oh, yeah, I must have left it here last summer!"
H..how does that work?

I'm interested in just who found this incredibly obscure movie. I'd be interested too in learning how they found the films. I know Joel talked as if he already had the ones he wanted in mind, so it's possible people have come up to him over the years and said "It's too bad mst3k isn't still on, as this film would be perfect". I think most of us bad movie lovers know of a couple of obscure gems.

I actually didn't mind Kevin's mask/make-up... it very much reminded me of the later lower-budgeted PLANET OF THE APES sequels, so it turned out an unintentional homage to me. Maybe that's what they were going for? Like: Let's see if anyone notices that this make-up is so much crappier than the earlier version, how can they NOT? I had actually heard of this movie years ago, but I didn't know what it was about, I just knew of the title. I thought it was a serious movie, like, someone getting lost in the wilderness and having to survive on their own before getting rescued or something. Little did I know.

Update--
One night during summer break, my daughter (10) was still up and said, hey let's watch an MST3K. So, I pulled up Netflix and looked over the list for something of some level of interest for her (we've already watched Reptilicus and Yongary). Cry Wilderness caught my eye--kid, friends with bigfoot, lots of corny but PG-rated action--so I started it up.
It was funnier than I remember the first time, mostly I bet because I've watched most of Season 11 at this point and know and am used to the new characters. Anyway, we fell asleep half way through, but a few nights later, she brought it up to watch from the beginning with the whole family--so plus wife and son (12). We watched it and everyone laughed a lot.
There was much laughing at--
- The characters laughing at everything.
- BANG!
- flare con
- the end song
Anyway, it's a kids' favorite now and they've rewatched it as much as Reptilicus and Yongary.

I'm interested in just who found this incredibly obscure movie. Vinegar Syndrome just released CRY WILDERNESS as a double feature DVD with IN SEARCH OF BIGFOOT (1975) in 2014. I'm sure that's how they came across it. Seeing as Season 11 had the extra requirement of films with HD transfers (and VS had to scan the film in 2k from the original negative). It was one of the few films from S11 that I had never heard of before (the only others being the WIZARDS OF THE LOST KINGDOM films).
