I saw this come up on netflix and had to watch it. I don't know if it's 90s nostalgia or the usual "remake not as good as the original" but I couldn't get into it, the jokes just weren't that funny. I kept waiting for the some of that biting, acerbic wit that made the original so memorable but it never came. Also what was the deal with recycling jokes? At various times I heard "someone left the cake out in the rain" and "diarrhea is like a storm raging inside you". Are they paying homage or just ripping off the original series and hoping no one will notice?

One the one hand, it clearly is some fanservice. And that could be welcome to some and annoying to others.
But on the other hand, if season 11 is really a continuation and not a reboot, what's wrong with repeated riffs? After all, how many episodes used "hi-keeba" and "gymkata!" in the first 10 seasons? Or "Watch out for snakes"? Or "diarrhea is like a storm..."? Recurring riffs is a hallmark of the show, and if it didn't bother you when they referenced a sampo in season 6, then it shouldn't bother you when they reference "time for go to bed" in season 11.

The only time it bothers me, and this is going to sound incredibly lame, is when the character making the riff wasn't part of the show it originated from and shouldn't know it. It's one of those "Relax it's just a show" things I have to remember to take into account.

And if Jonah had watched the previous experiments Dr. Forester had been broadcasting (he did recognize the theme song in the first episode), he would be equipped with the same knowledge about recurring riffs that we have. Give me my No-Prize! Commence relaxing!

Mike's "character" went through some sort of "training" period before he hit the theater with The Brain That Wouldn't Die, and considering he did callbacks to Joel episodes during his tenure it's safe to assume that he watched some of Joel's stuff during that portion of time.
Reptilicus took place months after Jonah was captured. It might also be safe to assume something similar took place for him.

One strange thing is to come on the board and there's not much to talk about any more. It's only been out a while, but discussion has slowed after an initial burst.
In regards to new seasons/episodes.... I know that's the way TV viewing is today, and I'm not complaining. I like being able to watch a season (of any show) at my leisure. But it does alter the water cooler aspect. I remember how it was when a new ep would air, and the next day at work we'd all gab about it, or I'd go on a forum and that would be the conversation of the week (that, and what was coming up next). I admit I miss that part of it. Today were all watching at different speeds: one viewer is on ep 2 while I'm at 14, and not really into talking about ep 2 anymore.

I was going to say they've forgotten to have Jonah slap one of (what used to be) spraypaint caps lights/buttons when there's movie sign, but upon review they abandoned that at some point during the original show. I've been watching a bunch of Joel episodes lately, and he did that. But not Mike it seems.

I'm going to start re-watching the season again soon to really let everything sink in and gather more thoughts about each episode.

I am so, so happy to hear 90% positive things about the relaunch from you guys. I was a very loyal fan during the original Comedy Central and Sci-Fi days, and until I blundered across these boards recently, had no idea many people even remembered the show, let alone were so incredibly passionate about it ! When the new trailer was released, I thought it looked pretty lousy, to be honest. I wondered why they just couldn't leave a great show alone. But I now know, after reading through everyone's reviews the past couple weeks, I have a treat in store. Because if this relaunch overwhelmingly meets with your guys approval, I have rarely been so happy to be wrong !!

Oddly there is more buzz about the new episodes on Twitter then there is on here, I wonder if part of that is because of the binge watching nature of it being on Netflix. Had it been on a weekly basis then everyone would be seeing episodes at the same pace, therefore discussing the episodes more organically.

How soon people forget Crow's arms actually worked in Season One. Are you referring to the barber sketch? Hi y'all. Bix here. I've been reading through this thread (my first visit back here since the new season, which I personally and completely financed to the tune of $75.00, you're welcome) to get an idea of what you guys think of it. I did not know about the prerecorded riffs and hadn't noticed that Crow's eyes do not move. Thanks for ruining it for me! But actually, I think it's fine. Any re-creation of a beloved show would NEVER be as good as the original (seasons 7 thru 10 excepted, of course). That's the definition of "original". Lightning doesn't strike twice and all that. The people involved are giving it their best shot, which is all I can ask. I'm up to the (first?) Doug McClure movie and this one is obviously going to be the best one so far. That's because MY name will be listed as the financial backer during the closing credits. First name John, last name...well their are four of them surrounding you this very moment. The reason I quoted this post? The Barber Sketch. Just thinking about that piece of slow-paced, local-yokel conversation with a hilarious punchline (multiple burning clowns) beats anything I've seen in Season 11. But I've liked what I've seen, and hope these kids come up with something as funny. "Hi y'all"? I guess eight years in South Carolina is having an effect. Or is that affect...
