Wholeheartedly agree on Baron. From reports at the live shows, his temporary replacement has apparently won over quite a few fans. Everything about his delivery is terrible. It's rushed, the inflections are all wrong, it's insincere sounding, The impressions aren't even that good and neither is the singing. I was watching a bit of Grace and Frankie on Netflix a month ago and was paying closer attention to his character, who usually doesn't get much screen time, and his normal acting voice is a more subdued version of what he does with Servo. It still isn't good, and he's still not a very good actor, way too many odd inflections and over-selling lines, but it's much more bearable. But as Servo in Season 11, a complete dud, honestly. And what you mention with the run-on riffs is one of the major annoyances for me also. It's a very good indication that most of the writers know how to write jokes and not riffs. They're too long, they have a set up and a punch line, and even if they are funny they interrupt the movie and distract. Much of what they do in the theater is distracting. Either with the incessant props, the lame CGI Servo and Crow flying around or the unnatural, stagey musical moments. It's all a distraction from the movie. And it's all a bit of the tail wagging the dog. We're there to watch a movie with commentary, not to watch commentary with a movie (and if you disagree, consider this: would you watch the movie on its own? Maybe. Would you watch the commentary on its own? Probably not). And when you have distractions, either deliberate (as with Servo flying around or the songs) or unintentional (riffs being delivered too quickly and not synced properly with the movie or with Baron's terrible delivery) the whole thing falls apart and it becomes a chore to watch. Great post DK! This is exactly what I was feeling about this season. I feel bad about slagging someone trying to do a job but Baron just annoys the living hell out of me and yes it is a major distraction to the point where I never even finished some episodes. Your other points are dead on as well. This show is created and run by intelligent creative people and no doubt they will iron out the bugs of Season 11 and make the possible season 12 better......I hope.

I've been meaning to make a thread for all of my thoughts concerning Season 11 and how things can be turned around for Season 12. A constructive criticism thread.

So I guess that means we'll have to expect the reviews for the original series to come out in 10 years?

So a few days ago, I had a notification on my phone that the official MST3K account on Tumblr posted something about the soundtrack for MST3K season 11 getting released, but when I went to see the post myself it said that the post no longer exists. Weird. I have heard that Short is working on getting a soundtrack put together for eventual release. Perhaps they were in the process of announcing a release date for the soundtrack, but then had to pull it back at the last minute for some reason?

Actually, not not long after I made that post, the official soundtrack was announced and released. Never mind I guess.

Agree wholeheartedly about Baron. His little-boy voice (Wizards of the Lost Kingdom) and British-fop voice (At the Earth's Core) were downright painful. At its worst, the original MST3k was boring at times, but it was never cringe-inducing.
I really hope they find a new Servo for season 12.

I shook my head when he congratulated himself by saying that was a "spot-on See Threepio impression." Um, no, not even close. It's really good for Hedonism Bot from Futurama, though.

Huh. I actually kinda like Baron. He's no Kevin of course, but he's not as bad as I feared he would be.

I have been waiting to comment on the new season until I finished watching it all. (I wanted to make it last so I didn't binge watch it.) As a reference I did donate $400 to the cause, so I do love MST immensely. When all is said and done here is how I (unfortunately) feel...if it goes on I will watch it...but it will not devastate me if it ends.
I agree with a lot of other criticisms that I have read in this thread. Things that I do not like: 1. It seems more scripted and less spontaneous, especially when they riff something that doesn't even happen in the movie until about a second later. 2. Odd to complain about...but some of it looks a little too nice...I prefer it looking a little more D.I.Y. 3. I do not like Tom flying around or Gypsy dropping down on the screen. 4. I wish they would have picked a target audience. I watched the entire season with my younger nephew...a lot of the obscure older references were lost on him just as the newer riffs were on me. I wish that they would just decide who they want to cater to, mine, or the younger generation. It may sound unbelievably unselfish, but I kind of wish that Joel had decided to just give the younger generation it's own MST like I had when I was young. Don't bog it down with references that the MAJORITY of the "under 30" crowd couldn't get. I think this alone would have made it more of a success...I think it would have been a bigger hit on college campuses. I work with a ton of people who are under 30 and use Netflix religiously and not one of them has ever mentioned MST to me...it makes me sad.
What I do like:
1. Obviously a lot of the riffs. There was quite a bit of good lines. 2. The theme song. (I will be buying the soundtrack...just waiting for the physical product. I'm old school!) 3. Felicia & Patton, they are the highlight of the cast for me. To be honest, I had no idea who any of the new cast members were before seeing them on MST...so I went into it without any bias...and Felicia & Patton are the only 2 new cast members that truly won me over.
I wish Joel and the rest of the cast all the best and hope they get another season...I just hope they tweak things a little.

When I first started watching the show, I was 15 and my dad was in his late 30s. There were jokes that I got and jokes that he got, and here are jokes I've gotten as I got older. Now I'm in my late 30s, and there are jokes I get and some I don't, and a 15 year old will get some and not get others. I think that's just the nature of MST3K. To target the audience too much would be very limiting to the writers and the audience. As for the physical CD (I'm waiting for that too), it looks like it's coming out Dec. 1: www.shoutfactory.com/product/mystery-science-theater-3000-the-return-music-from-the-netflix-original-series?product_id=6453

www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKJbIQgTA-cShout posted a video of all the DVD menus and it includes a peek at season 11 (and volume 39). Looks like episodes will be sharing a disc: Disc 1: Reptilicus, Cry Wilderness Disc 2: The Time Travelers, Avalanche (they don't show this in the montage for whatever reason) Disc 3: The Beast of Hollow Mountain, Starcrash Disc 4: The Land That Time Forgot, The Loves of Hercules Disc 5: Yongary: Monster from the Deep, Wizards of the Lost Kingdom Disc 6: Wizards of the Lost Kingdom II, Carnival Magic Disc 7: The Christmas That Almost Wasn't, At the Earth's Core too bad both Wizards movies don't share a disc
