Just wondering if any longtime members of this board are still lurking on the forums but not posting anymore. I've been here a good five years or so, and while some stalwart members from back in the day keep posting away (Travis, skyroniter, and Torgo, to name but a few), other treasured "old timers" who once lit up these boards have apparently moved on to greener pastures (members like Bix Dugan, TheNewMads, Plissken, MrsPhyllisTorgo, and Mike Flukkendoppler... Frubbeendorger...?? Fritzendoodler...??!! oh, HECK you know who I mean.) Membership turnover is inevitable on any public forum over the course of time, but with a new season of MST3K now available on Netflix I'm a little surprised we haven't seen more members returning to their old haunts -- if only just to say howdy.

I can tell you that I have posted on these forums before, though it was under a different username I since deleted. That period I was in brings back some painful memories.

I'm also a 2nd chance user. Though I didn't delete my old account so much as I was banned for getting into a flamewar with Van Hagar (remember him?), and then covertly invited back by a gracious mod-min, but under a new identity. Message board witness protection, if you will.
My, this board used to be a lively place.
Well, now I'm depressed.

I usually post whenever anything good is going on. I do check at least once a day though.

Message boards have been attracting less and less folks this decade because most fan conversations are occurring on social media. This is sad, because I like the format's organization (like how a discussion can continue uninterrupted but at a slow pace over years) and the more in-depth conversation. The internet used to be something you sat down and concentrated on, like writing a letter in ye olden days, but now it's something you briefly interact with every few minutes.
Of course, many of the boards that could still be classified as very active are total swamps - which ends up killing the format in a different way.

Members come and go. This board has seen a slow but steady decline over many years. It's not surprising. What is surprising is that the reboot hasn't led to more activity. I had thought that would occur; alas, it has not. Me, it'll be 13 years next week actually.

Without them or Don's site we're just kind of drifters in the dark. I think we still come up on Google though, so there is SOME hope.

I thought I noticed the link was missing one day. I wonder why they did that? You'd think Travis's work alone would be worth a prominent link.

Would it have anything to do with the criticism directed towards Satellite News from this board concerning the slight coverage the Kickstarter campaign received?

I mean, some of us have given Sattelite News quite a bit of crap even beyond the revival series.

I highly doubt Chris read any of it. He's never been keen on this board and he's barely ever posted. He's had a bit of a problem with us ever since Mr. Atari's original username was "Sampo," which irked since that's his chosen username. When we campaigned for a SN link, Cornell mostly ignored us. It was Erhardt that seemed keen on letting us join, but it was only on the condition the Mr. A changed his name.
So when the site got cleaned up, I'm sure Chris cut us loose without a second thought. At least that's what I assume.

It will be 12 years here for me in December, and there were a lot of members that moved on not long after I got here. I haven't seen nor heard from guys like Captain Hygiene and Change B. Goode in a long, long time (though they were around for many years after I arrived). Some people just move along, others have made a point of saying farewell. Doctor Z was one who said he'd gotten all he could from the board and signed off with a friendly-enough message. I remember many group conversations with Jackie Frost and then suddenly she merged with the ether. I hope she's doing OK. Busdrivertohell was gone for a long time but has popped up more than a few times in the past two years. I may just not roam the same spaces on the board as she does, though, so maybe she's here all the time. Actually, if any of these people only hang out in Sloane, I wouldn't even know they were here at all. Some of the old guard came here from the old SciFi boards, which I never frequented. That's a long time discussing MST3K for some members. I thought I noticed the link was missing one day. I wonder why they did that? You'd think Travis's work alone would be worth a prominent link. Would it have anything to do with the criticism directed towards Satellite News from this board concerning the slight coverage the Kickstarter campaign received? If that's why they did it, that's kind of petty. And really, it's not like we were bursting at the seams with new members when the link was active. Still, like others have said, forums are not the outlet for discussion they once were. It's a dying communication form.

No, I wasn't him. Fact VH was long gone when I first joined. I was the guy who had this strange obsession with an obscure Cartoon Network show. Hey, I was in my teens back then. Yeah, I noticed the vanishment of this forum's link from the Satellite News main page when it rebranded, though I was able to find another link on the Sci-Fi archive page. You just have to take off the 19 on the URL.

I had thought that would occur; alas, it has not. Me, it'll be 13 years next week actually. The problem with the reboot I guess is the binge watch factor. Everyone has seen everything in a short amount of time and now it's all talked out. Personally I give the new series a 5/10. I really can't warm up to anyone except the new Mads. I really can't talk about something I'm not crazy about. Maybe more people feel like me I dunno. Judging by the reboot threads, I might be in the minority. Season 12 will really need changes to keep me interested. You can't go home again, sorry. We're getting down to the end as far as episode releases for the original show is concerned so not much to say there. Also this board has been around so long what hasn't been discussed? I lurk here everyday but rarely feel compelled to post anything. BTW I'm a 10 year plus member (one name change a few years back). I know we're all passionate about the show and it's great to be a part of this community but in the end change is inevitable. People move on.
