Joel said on WTF that they got a licensing fee from Netflix of about $100,000 per episode. So, ~$1.4 million. Not bad since that should be all profit since the kickstarter supposedly paid for all production. If you throw in profit from the live tour, add profits from the merchandise Joel has mentioned should be coming out soon (like comic books and funko figures), and throw in further investment from Shout!, at some point they should be able to start financing their own new seasons in some form if need be.

but in the same podcast, Joel mentioned that the episodes ended up being more expensive than they had estimated, so some of the Netflix deal ended up up covering the overage.

If NetFlix *does* decide to renew for another season, I wonder how many episodes we'll get? I'd be down for getting only 7 or so episodes in Season 12 if it meant they could spend more time on each episode (i.e. - Record everyone riffing together in the theater instead of piece-meal). Yeah, I'm all for less episodes if it means more shooting time. MST3K is as much a 'hang out' show as a comedy one to me, and that means a comfortable casualness for the performers that, unfortunately, is only fitfully captured in the new show (which I otherwise really like!).

Alot of Netflix original series do like 6-8 episode seasons, trailer park boys did. They restarted similarly after ending in 2007 where they had about 1.5-2 8;ep seasons done before Netflix picked them up and continued making more. I would be fine with two five or four episode blocks dropped during a year.

The optimist in me thinks Netflix renewed the show and are letting Shout! announce it at the Comic-Con panel.

Honestly I'm all for a season 12 as long as they take more time with the riffs. Some episodes from season 11 felt like they were all written in the same day.

Looks like no announcement at Comic-Con at this point. Four hours ago, Felicia tweeted that she has her "Fingers crossed on a season 2!" So sounds like she has no knowledge of a renewal or other plans for more MST3K. Maybe someone who was at Comic-Con has some insights?

Sounds to me like there's no renewal as of yet. And honestly, at this point, I'm not expecting one.

So no renewal announcement and no info about another DVD volume ? Disappointing Comic Con for MST3K fans.

Well that's kinda disappointing....but I guess it's not officially cancled either so hopefully that means that Netflix is still open to negotiations.

Sad lack of con news , perhaps they are waiting for the live tour to wrap up? Even if Netflix we're to decline, I would think Joel is savvy enough to shop it around.

On Facebook a few people have said that at last night's live show Joel said he's confident a renewal is coming, they're just working out details with Netflix.

I guess the fact that there are so many parties involved makes it a bit less simple in the negotiating than Netflix being in change of everything and hitting the 'renew' button.
