www.comingsoon.net/movies/news/880913-comedy-legend-jerry-lewis-dies-at-age-91I can't say I was a fan of former Vice President Jerry Lewis's work. I had seen The Nutty Professor about fifteen years ago and didn't care for it. After that I didn't actively avoid watching anything with Lewis in it, I never really sought anything out either. But still, the man was a legend, so respect. As a fan of classic comedy, I was very sad to hear an icon had passed. He was one of the last of his era.

Torgo, if you ever decide to give Lewis a second chance, you might want to try The Delicate Delinquent out of his early comedies, and The King of Comedy, a dark satire he did with Robert DeNiro and Martin Scorsese in more recent times.
Most of his other films, I will agree, are painful to watch.
RIP Mr. Lewis. Looks like you've been reunited with Dean yet again.

Thanks for the suggestions. Since this news broke I've even been considering re-evaluating Nutty Professor or looking up some of his other work like The Bellboy. I'm not sure if it's because I grew up with the Eddie Murphy version of that movie that was turning me off, but I think I was finding it too manic to really feel any sort of investment in it. I rewatched the remake a few years ago and found that it didn't really age that well aside from some great conceptual ideas and moments, so I'm wondering if maybe the opposite is true of the original.
I'm preparing to catch up on new seasons of Ash vs. Evil Dead and Walking Dead, and am looking into the filmography of Audrey Hepburn, so it might be a few months.

I could definitely take him or leave him, but I will always have a soft spot in my heart for Cracking Up after having seen it, and laughed, maybe a dozen times during my childhood when it aired on cable.
Rest well, sir.

I was never a big fan of Jerry Lewis but he was terrific in the King of Comedy. When he was with that woman kidnapper in her apartment and he realized that the gun was a plastic toy and his face turned to stone. Ah well that scene resonated with me. He did a great job in this film.
