I’m guessing this has been done before in years past, but since I’m relatively new here, I wanted to make a post about it to see what people’s thoughts are: What movies, if any, did MST3K feature that you actually consider as decent or even good? In my opinion, Moon Zero Two, Space Travelers (Marooned), The Magic Sword, Tormented, The Girl in Lover’s Lane, Teen-Age Crime Wave, Girls Town, Kitten with a Whip, The Brute Man, Diabolik, The Land that Time Forgot, and At the Earth’s Core are all decent to fairly good movies. I wouldn’t consider any of these films as bad. What do you think? Am I missing any? Am I crazy for thinking any of these movies aren’t terrible?

I always thought, "Why did they pick This Island Earth? " I realize they couldn't put up an inferior video quality movie, i.e Manos, but there were so many baaaaad movies that could've translated to the big screen. I agree Space Travellers isn't a bad movie but we would of been deprived of Gregory Peck impressions and that would've been tragic.

Dear god, man, are you feeling all right? Obviously, Space Travelers gets brought up frequently in threads like this. Moon Zero Two is pretty good. I always thought the effects in City on Fire were really good for the time it was made. Yeah, I suppose the Gamera and Godzilla movies are decent, if you're into those kinds of things. I am not, so I don't think much of them. I always thought Stranded in Space was a good concept that wasn't horribly done. Pretty interesting, actually. It's been a long time since I've gone through the list. Will have to think on it.

I remember being fond of Phantom Planet (though the monsters are undeniably goofy) and Touch of Satan.

I always thought Tormented would've been watchable without the riffs. And though they may be goofy beyond belief, the special effects in the so-called "Russo-Finnish" movies are pretty damn good.

There is a misconception that the movies on MST were the worst out there (Yes I'm aware of the theme lyric). I think most of the films they did are good for what they are.

Dear god, man, are you feeling all right? Lousy acting? Eh, sure. (Especially the guy who played Nero) but the violence and revenge plot pretty much sucked me in.

I know Best Brains had to cut some of it out to keep it family-friendly, so maybe keeping some of that would have rounded out the plot a little better. But frankly, bad acting can ruin a movie all by itself. This sure comes close, in my opinion

IIRC, they wanted to riff "The Land Unknown", but Universal insisted they do a color movie. This aired a few times on Sci Fi during the Sci Fi era, so it's odd they didn't do it on the show.

I liked Diabolik enough I got it on Laserdisc before there was a DVD available. I even have Overdrawn At the Memory Bank on Laserdisc. I've actually synched it up with a certain Pink Floyd album for my own personal Dark Side of Raoul. Moon Zero Two is fun unriffed as well.

Yeah, the Brains themselves have said that they didn't pick the films based on their quality, but rather on their riffability. A higher quality film that they could make jokes about was far better than a terrible film that couldn't inspire jokes. I mean, they twice considered using From Hell It Came but passed on it, and I know that film is worse than half the movies they did do, at the very least.

I personally don't think "This Island Earth" is THAT great a film (having seen the uncut version before). It has some nice special effects, but it has a pretty senseless plot.
That said, I agree with everyone who's said "Tormented". It has a pretty interesting idea for a story, and I said once over at Satellite News that had it had a bigger budget, better actors, and maybe a better director helming it, like Alfred Hitchcock, it could have been a classic psychological thriller.
"The Projected Man" isn't too bad either. In fact, it could easily be looked as a precursor to the Jeff Goldblum "Fly" remake.
"The Final Sacrifice" looks like it would be watchable without riffing. Even Crow says at the end "This wasn't as bad as the usual fare."

I totally agree with you on Bloodlust! and I Accuse My Parents. I'm not sure how I forgot those in my list. Sidehackers though... I mean, it's far from being the worst film ever featured on the show, I'll give you that.
