Too bad for the show? /smh This show is going to be network note'd to death. Frank Conniff himself has said "most bad movies are too bad for MST3K," so don't pretend that this is a recent sentiment from people attached to the series. Also, the movie itself is pretty violent and sexual, so it would clash against the mostly family friendly tone they had last season.

Geteven (actually Get Even, but Shout! said it was too bad for the show).

Belittle my misgivings all you want. But that much disruptive decision-making in the creative process, about the thing that makes up 90% of every episode, still isn't a good thing, no matter how you spin it.
It would be like Comedy Central telling them that Manos was too bad and obscure, and to pick another film that had some name cache instead.

Hey if you can embiggen a small comment into the integrity of the show being destroyed, don’t be shocked if some of us belittle it.

Let's extrapolate these few sentences into the death of this show! It's doomed! DOOMED! DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMEEEEEEDDDD! But really, I will admit that I'm a bit concerned as well, and I hope they're still able to find some good riffable films without being too limited.

Still pulling for 90's Captain America. Brand name (especially in the year of Infinity War) and it's pretty bad.

Those would be fun too (I actually used to watch those a lot when I was 10), though since they're TV films they likely wouldn't appeal to Joel's demand for HD appeal. The 90's film on the other hand has an HD master readily available and even released on blu-ray by Shout.

True, if they were REALLY going for the worst of the worst, Frank and the others wouldn't have passed on all those boxes of italian nazi/nunsploitation flicks.

I like Diet Kolos cuz as long as he's around, I'm not the most pessimistic poster. I can go both ways on this news. I for one like slightly better movies. I've always said that I like to watch 'cheesy' movies, not bad movies. Movies that I might watch myself anyway on a rainy Saturday afternoon. Having said that, I tote's agree that I am not excited about hearing about Netflix vetoing things. One of the biggest things Joel preached about on his KickStarter telethon was how the funding would keep the show in the hands of the creators and the fans and the they'd be free to make MST3K the way they wanted. ... ... Now having said that, if Netflix being involved gives them a bit more money and time to smooth out some of those wrinkles from last season--like the rushed feel to most of the host segments--I guess then we would be back on the good things side. I will say though, that if you just look at the actual comments, there really isn't any proof per se that Netflix is trying to control the show, just that they're making requests for movies with some names attached. I for one quite like it when there's a Hasslehoff or a Donald Pleasence or a Jack Palance or even Joe Estevez in my cheesy movie. And it makes sense--it makes it much easier to promote a show about watching old cheesy movies with well known actors in them than a movie created by a fertilizer salesman and starring no one.

I don’t know if the bigger names thing is much to worry about given that big celebrities or producers....because there is no shortage if forgotten flops that have had big names attached to them. Also I’m sure it’s a decision based on Netflix wanting to make sure MST3K isn’t just a one off hit, I’m sure they’ll be more flexible when the show proves itself a continued success!

Going off the timeframes we know (writing started in January, the crew is shooting to film sometime before July, post production takes a month or two, and Jonah stated that they're planning on doing another tour in the fall) I don't think it's too much of a stretch to assume we'll see the release date of season 12 around September, or perhaps at the latest on Thanksgiving to mark the 30th anniversary of the show.

Aiming it around Thanksgiving would make a lot of sense.

my dream movie for season 12, would actually be an hour and 15 minute episode of the Virginian which starred Doug McClure and guest starred Troy Donahue. That would be glorious.
