/description I hadn't seen much discussion on this, so I thought I'd make a thread. MST3K has a new Kickstarter! But this time it's for the long promised trading cards from RRParksCards. The company appears to be a one man operation, and the way he produces sets are by doing Kickstarters to fund production and satisfy early bird orders. In the past he has done classic halloween card sets and The Three Stooges. What I like is that he doesn't do the Kickstarter until the cards are ready for production, so once the campaign ends you are pretty much ready to get your cards. You can check out the link for all the details. I pledged at the $75 level, which gets you a full box of cards (36 10-pack cards) which guarantees a full base set and an awfully good chance at some of the rarer cards. There is a $175 level that gets you all the cards, but that's too rich for my blood. You will be able to get the cards after the campaign, but they will be a bit harder to find and likely a little more expensive. The campaign ends in 19 days and is already at $29,800 of a $3,500 goal.

I will probably get a box (or two). But man, those prices are pretty steep considering this is only 'Series One' which means it only covers seasons 1-3. Which means we'll have to pay these prices again for, I'm guessing, Seasons 4-7, and then 8-10. That's a lot of sets, and a lot of cash.

I see cards with Pearl, Brain Guy and Bobo, Kinga and Mike Nelson as Mike Nelson on the Kickstarter page. It looks like the Experiment cards only cover the first three seasons.

Yeah, the experiments cover 1-3, and if another sets release they'll likely do 4-6, 7-10, 11-12. But at the moment they're focusing on series one.

If you've backed you might want to go back and reread. I don't know about some of the promo cards, but the invention exchange and the experiments specifically state they will be for Seasons 1-3 only. Just because some of the pictures show later seasons doesn't mean the pictures aren't concept art for future sets, or are just pics from some of the promos. I would bet he made sure he slipped a few pictures of Mike and Pearl in there to gloss over the fact that this set is mostly only covering a third of the show.

I'm backing at the $1 level, so how much of the show it covers won't really affect my reward.

Perhaps I'm looking too much into this, but comparing just how much more money this campaign is raising compared to the other card sets he's funded through Kickstarter, it kinda shows that MST3K is a property that has some fans that have been starving for merchandise. Before the Shout! acquisition, how much stuff was made after the show was cancelled apart from the stuff promoting the ill conceived "bots are back" era? Then again, I'm probably putting too much thought into the actions of 400 backers.

I would have been all over this twenty or so years ago, along with a lot of the other merchandise that's been released since the Shout! acquisition. Sadly, I'm at the age and possess the cynicism that all fun purchases have to be weighed against their practical value. Otherwise, I'd be curled up in my MST3K blanket, sipping cocoa from my MST3K color changing mug, and waiting for my pizza to cook so I can get it out with my Gizmonic oven mitt.

I'm well past the collector's stage as well, but I've gotta admit, that is one sweet-looking set.

I’m in the same boat, where there’s now enough MST3K merch where I don’t try to buy everything like I might have a decade ago. But I did back this for three packs to get a taste. The cards are fun and I’ll probably back series 2 at a similar level.

Just an FYI, the stock is 80% sold through as of yesterday and the card's creator (it's a one man operation) says it is unlikely these will be reprinted. He's moving on to series 2 next. So it's now or never if anybody wants a set: www.rrparkscards.com/services

Clicking on that link, I was tickled to see that the same seller also has The Monster Times trading cards for sale.
The Monster Times, dude!
I sooooo wish I could hit the Irish Lotto right about now.

R. R. Parks, the creator of the cards, is a very nice guy. He sent me along some bonus cards, mainly promos and press tests of 3D cards, as well as an open invite to help shape future series releases. I already emailed him some ideas which he liked, and he has a backer exclusive meeting planned for the not too distant future to hear ideas.
