Thought I'd start a thread for Netflix. Who here has it, and what shows do you like to watch? Of course, there's one show that's pretty obvious to talk about. I'm happy with the new season of MST3K and looking forward to season 12. Was it perfect? No, but once they get the bugs out and find their rhythm, I'm hoping it'll be up there with past seasons.
For original programming, I like: Stranger Things and Travelers so far. I'll have to check out some more.
I've binged on all the seasons of Breaking Bad and what's up so far of Better Call Saul. I'm starting on Dexter.
I like to watch comedians' stand-up specials, too. I've watched John Mulaney, Jim Gaffigan and Sebastian Maniscalco.
It can be a bit overwhelming trying to find a movie or show, as they have a gazillion things to look up. You kind of have to already know what you're looking for or come across something by chance.
I'll add more to this as I think of it.

I really love Bojack Horseman. I'll admit that there are multiple Netflix shows on my watch list, but I haven't watched very many.

I mostly just have it for MST and the Marvel shows. If those are dropped then away it goes.

I got Netflix streaming finally when MST3K came back, and it's a decent outlet.
Of original programming, I loved the two Strange Things seasons. I don't follow the Marvel TV world much at all, but I did watch the full Punisher season just a couple weeks ago. That was pretty good, probably the best portrayal of that character out of many other attempts over the years. Not perfect, but pretty good. Jon Bernthal is a great Frank Castle.
Otherwise I have enjoyed the movie library, though it's nothing compared to the DVD program. You can get so many more titles with the DVD package. I do wish I still had it but I have to draw the line somewhere.
Oh, and guilty pleasure - the full Star Trek TOS run. I can watch it anytime.

I like it. The Flash never airs when I can see it, so it's good to know I've got Netflix as an (eventual) way to watch those, and I've actually really been liking their Voltron cartoon. I never watched the original Voltron, but from what I'm hearing mots of the folks involved with this were big fans of the original shows.
Also, I find it's really good for background noise. I can find a decent Disney movie or TV show I already know by heart and put it in while working on other things.

The drawback to all of this, of course, is the binge watching. One more thing we humans do to wreck our health. We eat overly-processed fatty, salty foods. And, oh, yeah, while we're at it, let's sit for prolonged periods of time and go to bed too late. That should cover it.

The Netflix film "A Futile and Stupid Gesture" about comedy writer Doug Kenney (National Lampoon, Animal House, Caddyshack) also comes out this month www.imdb.com/title/tt5566790/Great cast but am not entirely convinced they can do Josh Karp's amazing biography justice in a film. We'll see....

This is more of a Showtime thing than Netflix, but I'm watching it on Netflix: Dexter. Like the show, but there are HUGE gaping plot holes. No WAY he'd be able to get away with just going around like that, and break into places where there's never any one else there, or cameras, or security, and just be out all hours and not be at home OR work, and no one catches on while he merrily sets up a kill room, then kills, then cleans up, then goes to his boat to dump the evidence. Just, no. Especially with a wife and kids, then just a kid and a nanny.
And I'm only on Season 6 (there are 8), but was that whole Liddy thing just dropped? Did Quinn just FORGET he suspected Dexter of anything? And if Dexter withholds evidence on the most sensational cases so he could take revenge himself, why is he considered GOOD at what he does? Wouldn't they have gotten rid of him for being, I don't know, INCOMPETENT?
Kinda dumb. But, I still like the show after all that.
There's a parody of Dexter on Youtube, I think the channel is called jacksfilms or something. It's pretty funny. If you watch Dexter, you should check that out.

We'll see.... I watched this. It was pretty good, with Will Forte playing the "young" Doug (they made a joke about that, breaking the 4th wall, in the movie) and Martin Mull (best straightman/deadpan guy ever) as the older Doug, had he BECOME older. Joel McHale was good as Chevy Chase, the others, who would become the future not-ready-for-primetime-players, well. (They made fun of that, too ). They covered the National Lampoon years and of course, Animal House and Caddyshack. I remember seeing National Lampoon magazines on stands, but I could never get into them. I never saw anything really funny, but I didn't get into them too much so, I don't know. (And I was a kid at the time). Animal House was great for the time, now it's kinda dated and just "good". And it's a shame he thought Caddyshack was a failure, because THAT one was more timeless, I think. Would've been interesting to see where he would've gone from there. Pretty good overall.

Yeah despite its inaccuracies/oversimplifications, I thought the Netflix film was okay, too, though not as good as the "Drunk Stoned Brilliant Dead" documentary. I particularly liked Domhnall Gleeson as the shy but wise Henry Beard. (Btw I briefly met/shook hands with the real Chevy Chase a couple months ago in London at the now infamous Mike Read interview--where Read asked stupid questions throughout the night and the audience turned on him. Chevy seemed very frail but was still charming and funny.) Re: National Lampoon Magazine. Very much of it's time (very 70s, anti-Nixon, etc.). I think the comic strip parodies, cartoons generally hold up better today than the longer text pieces (though I do love things like Henry Beard's Mike Hammer parody "My Gun is Cute," Doug's "My First Blowjob," etc.)

Yeah, it takes half a season or so to hit its stride, but once it gets great, it stays great. I don't binge watch anything except for Bojack Horseman.

It CAN get rather dark and depressing also, though. And, I could go the rest of my life without a Princess-Carolyn-centered episode.
I like the little jokes they put in that you really have to pay attention to, like the scrawl underneath the news and the posters and billboards in the background. I remember in one episode they were considering Bojack for the lead in a Pegasus movie. (I forget the name of the character that got the part). In another episode, you see a movie poster in the background that says, "Pegasus - The Trilogy Begins".
And they even had a hackneyed (see what I did there?), obligatory Christmas episode.

I tried to watch Altered Carbon, but I just couldn't get past, like, the ten minute mark. It just wasn't holding my interest. So, if anyone actually watches this and finds it decent, let me know if I should give it another chance.
