Thought I'd start a thread for Netflix. Who here has it, and what shows do you like to watch? Of course, there's one show that's pretty obvious to talk about. I'm happy with the new season of MST3K and looking forward to season 12. Was it perfect? No, but once they get the bugs out and find their rhythm, I'm hoping it'll be up there with past seasons. For original programming, I like: Stranger Things and Travelers so far. I'll have to check out some more. I've binged on all the seasons of Breaking Bad and what's up so far of Better Call Saul. I'm starting on Dexter. I like to watch comedians' stand-up specials, too. I've watched John Mulaney, Jim Gaffigan and Sebastian Maniscalco. It can be a bit overwhelming trying to find a movie or show, as they have a gazillion things to look up. You kind of have to already know what you're looking for or come across something by chance. I'll add more to this as I think of it. Besides MST3K, I watch The Office. Hilarious show btw

I just watched the documentary The Last Man on the Moon, focusing on astronaut Gene Cernan, talking about Apollo 17. Very moving and interesting. What a feeling that must be, walking on the moon - something only 12 people from the entire human race have done - seeing the Earth rise over the horizon. Gave me chills.
It's so disheartening that so many people still, in this day and age, think it was a hoax. They think the moon isn't even a solid surface, that it's a "light source". Uh, really? A light source with craters? Have none of these people ever looked through a telescope? And they think they can actually see sky behind the moon and stars THROUGH it, during it's phases, like it actually waxes and wanes and that's not the Earth's shadow. (Edit: for eclipses, I mean, for the shadow part). "Oh, it's not really that far away...There's a dome over the Earth (firmament)."
Ugh. I can't even.
Anyway, it's definitely worth a watch.

You could probably show them, using a powerful enough telescope, the remnants from one of the landing sites (i.e., the American flag and lunar rovers that are STILL THERE) and some people would still insist that it was all a hoax.

The myth, the legend, that is Bill Murray. I watched The Bill Murray Stories, about people sharing their stories of encounters with this big goofball. The guy is just interesting, let's face it. I wouldn't mind running into this guy and just saying, "Hey, it's Bill-F*cking-Murray!" and have him just pass by and say, "Hey.", and just steal one of my fries.

I foolishly watched Solo. Just DON'T, people. Wish I had had the Rifftrax commentary while watching it. Must clean my brain now. There was absolutely no reason for this movie whatsoever, as there was no story. (Solo A-Go-Go).

Stranger Things season 3 airs July 4th. That's one I won't miss. Too bad it's taken so damn long to come around, though. It's got to be more than a year by now, doesn't it? Sure feels like it.

I watched The Umbrella Academy. Pretty good. I liked it. Thirty-four (?), (Edit: 43) I think, women spontaneously go into labor on the same day (not having been pregnant the day before) and babies are born throughout the world in this mysterious manner. An eccentric billionaire adopts seven of them and starts training them to save the world as he tries to determine what kind of special powers they have. (We don't know anything about the other children yet besides these ones the show focuses on for the first season). He names his outfit The Umbrella Academy (obviously). They engage in various super-hero adventures throughout their childhood, and eventually disband and fall apart, going their separate ways, as their adoptive father is a bit of a cold, douche bag. The show starts with them as adults as they come back together for their father's funeral (there are some flashbacks, and I'm assuming more will be learned in later seasons in more detail). There's communicating with the dead, and time travel, and mind manipulation, and...a talking chimp. It, like SO many other shows and movies these days, is based on a comic/graphic novel (written by one of the guys in the band My Chemical Romance). I enjoyed it and hope there's a second season. The actor who plays the time travelling kid, Number Five - Aidan Gallagher - does a really good job playing an adult stuck in a child's body. (He's fifteen in real life, going on sixteen later this year). He's very believable as an adult. The other actors are okay, too. Don't remember all their names. The one that plays Klaus is good, and the one who plays assassin Hazel. The only thing that was glaringly bad was the prosthetic body make-up for the character of Luther (Number One) - Tom Hooper, I think (?) is the actor's name. (He played Billy Bones on Starz' Black Sails). It's supposed to be big, burly ape-like muscles and it's pretty hokey looking. I would recommend this show, though.

I watched a series of adult CGI animated shorts, I think it was called Love, Death and Robots. It was pretty good. All the episodes are from different film makers. (There is CGI nudity). Not bad. It's pretty scary how realistic CGI is nowadays. You can kind of tell by their mouths and the way they walk. (There was some real people thrown in one of them, one was Topher Grace from That 70's Show). And one of them, I really couldn't tell if it was all CGI - the people, I mean - or if there were some real people playing with them, their mouths looked real. I forget what the title of that one was, something about Lucky 13 (referring to the battle space ship they were on), but at least two of them looked real, but when the woman was talking to a commanding officer (don't remember his rank), that guy looked fake.
I don't know how much is ALL CGI, or if it was like that movie The 300, where they just put animation over actual actors. I guess I could look it up. And some of the episodes are just plain animation.
The stories weren't all that intriguing, but not bad, but it was all about the animation, I guess.

"The Dirt" Since this is a Netflix exclusive, I thought I'd post this here. For the unfamiliar, this is a biopic of the band Motley Crue, based on the autobiographical book of the same title. It tells a pretty straight-forward band origin story as well as some of the more notorious stories from the bands rise to fame up until about the early 1990s. It's directed by the guy who directed the Jackass movies (really), stars four basic unknowns and has the production quality feel of a late 1990s HBO movie, but there are some genuinely sad moments that happen to these guys. It's not particularly deep, and it's hard to say how accurate it all is for a biopic, but if you have any interest in the band's notorious story, it's a decent two hours. Important note: The band was famous for their partying and debauchery, and the movie doesn't shy away too much for that. There's a scene that's borderline pornographic in the first three minutes. Be warned. And heck, here's the trailer.

And 6 months later I'm back, signed on for another month in order to catch the new (and final) season of Jessica Jones. Also, Black Mirror - and I heard Alias Grace was a great miniseries, so that's in my holds. And there's a couple movies too: I Am Mother and Wine Country
