So, I'm not a huge sports fan (*Adjusts monicle* "At least not in the MODERN sense of the term sport" *Snooty laughter while shuffling a deck of cards*), but I get the sense that this year is a little... subdued?
Like, every year before this, the Super Bowl has kind of been this dominating force of media. But speaking as someone who's job is to work at a radio station during sports broadcasts, I find it weird that I didn't realize that today was the Super Bowl until two days ago. Then I promptly forgot again. Then I got to church today and suddenly there's a few people talking about what team they'll be rooting for, and I guess some people are still mad about whatever Deflate Gate involved, and that's a factor because I guess a team in the bowl is one of the teams that deflated the ball way back when it happened?
But even today just felt... quieter. I dunno, is it my imagination as a sports outsider, or is this year's Super Bowl not something that people are super excited for?
Or is the hype still there, but the fact that I've almost exclusively moved beyond television as the place where I get my news and commercials just making it harder for me to see the build up?

It felt to me like there was a general lack of enthusiasm for football in general this season. Don't know why, really. But normally the town I live in is abuzz about the local college teams, and yet this year I hardly heard anything at all. Super Bowl kinda snuck up on me this year.
But the Eagles won. Good for them.

2019:
Well, this is a new year, but - wow. That was a low scoring game.

Defense wins championships, but no one ever said that it made for an especially exciting game.
