Joel posted an update on the Kickstarter, which should be public, but might be backers-only. See here. He's cagey over the details, other than 2 big details: Season 12 will only be 6 episodes.And... One of the films is from the last 5 years.Plus apparently this season will have a theme or something. Discuss!

Yes I just read this. Also one episode is one that has been requested often. *Fingers Crossed* Killdozer... Come on Killdozer

My main concern is that 6 episodes seems very limited. I myself advocated for 8-10 out of concern for quality and time, but this seems like a bizarrely small order, unless they're secretly cutting the season in 2 and "Season 13" is the 2nd set of 6.

Considering we have over 200 episodes now, as well as Rifftrax filling a void, I can't sweat a new season being only six episodes. My only real issue is that only six episodes doesn't seem quite competitive enough in the riffing market when its sister project is giving us new material about once ever week or so.
But whatever they need to get it to work. I have no real complaints. In fact this makes it easier to catch up on my blog.

Too bad it can't be more, but I'll take 6. I just don't like the sound of them doing something that was made in the last five years... (and no I don't care that Merlin was new in the 90s.)

I have no problem with six episodes since I felt that season 7 was one of the most consistent in the original run. Hopefully this will lead to a quick turnaround after shooting and lead to future seasons being produced faster.

So less episodes and the reason given is that people binge watch... and they're asking for more $$$ despite a deal with NETFLIX? Something about that rubs me the wrong way...

I'm also worried with Joel's talk of mixing up the format and making it easier for binge-watchers. However obliquely he put it.
That could mean a few things. Maybe shorter episodes, god forbid.

Here's my guess: we'll be watching the gang being forced to binge watch 6 movies in a row. That'll be the premise of the season. Which could be interesting! Just one intro at the start then each episode blending seamlessly into the next.

Heh. That would actually be pretty funny. I can just see them in episode six screaming in agony.

So we're getting another season 7 in terms of episode count? That's awfully short, but I'll take it I guess.
I'm also concerned about season 12 being "written to be binge watched", but if it means it'll be more serialized in the segments ala season 8, I wouldn't mind too much, though I've always preferred the usual self-contained approach for the segments.
I do like the idea of the pledge drive, though.

Does auctioning away some props and costumes (CUStumes ) mean they aren't going to do any more seasons after that? Or, does it mean they will be making NEW props? I certainly hope it's the latter. I'm excited for the new season nonetheless. PS: Bring back Waverly!!

So I've seen the cutting-seasons-in-half thing happen for other shows for faster distribution and such, and it makes sense that Netflix would want MST to conform to their format so... not really a big deal I guess, assuming it cuts down on wait time between seasons.
Also I bet the oft-requested film they're doing is either Reb Brown Captain America or Plan 9. Netflix probably wants a bit of name recognition on the films.
In my ideal world, the wait time between these 6-episode seasons is cut down enough so that they release a new one every Thanksgiving.

I imagine theyçre just auctioning props they don't need anymore.

If it ends up with a more consistent season, then I'm up for it! Season 11 had it's up and downs with certain episodes way above the others. In a way this reminds me of season 7 and how it's run was short, but consistent.
