They've gotta be shooting for Turkey Day or thereabouts for the drop date, don't you think? I'm not sure how much Netflix cares about the importance of Turkey Day to MST3K (though the renewal was announced last Turkey Day), but the timing does seem to suggest a premiere around that time. I'm going to guess either October or November.

Joel might have negotiated a planned release date around that period, though Netflix will likely have final say.

Has Netflix ever released a show on a Thursday? They tend to do Fridays (with some exceptions). I would bet the Turkey Day Marathon happens on Thanksgiving, leading up to season 12’s premiere the next day.

I think season two of Jessica Jones was released on a Thursday. I remember being caught offguard with that one.
Friday is their norm, but they make exceptions. Kinda like how DVD's, blu-rays, and 4K's are normally released on Tuesdays, but sometimes they bump to Fridays or some other date for whatever reason.

Well if that movie choice is real at least Paul Rudd will be happy I think that reference gave it away for me, crap. Oh well. Anyway on that note, it's also just occurred to me that even though we're getting shorter seasons on Netflix thus far, another possible benefit of this is that, in addition to a shorter production time, maybe we could also get to see some movies riffed that would've normally been too pricey to license in the past. There may be less baskets here, but they'd be bigger to hold more eggs, so to speak. If that's the case my fault as I was hoping what I typed would be a little vague so my apologies.

With Paul Rudd in mind, we can only conclude that Halloween 6 is confirmed.

So, man, that's some pricey stuff on that Pledge drive. And that's coming from a guy who pledged a big $1K for the actual Bring Back KS.
I doubt I'll get anything considering I don't need discs, and the downloads come out SIX MONTHS after it hits Netflix.
...
Oh, and I'm a little late to the 6 eps news discussion, but I'm in the camp of that's fine if the quality gets higher. I will say though, I would love to see two releases a year if they're doing groups of six--and calling them 2 parts of one season. In fact, my one big complaint is organizational/catelog-related-- If they start releasing 6 eps at a time and call each one a season, we could be up into seasons in the high teens after only releasing another 30-some eps. That's kind of silly considering that during the golden age, seasons 3-6 had a whopping total of 96 eps in 4 season. Even the relatively short Sci-Fi run of 3 seasons had 48 eps.

Aye, the pledge drive's a bit pricey for me. I wanna support it, and probably will a *bit*, but since I'm a pretty poor fellow I still don't know if I'll be able to swing it.
I'm okay with shorter seasons, but I'd hope that they can start to sit more in the 8-10 episode range than the 6 episode range. Though it might be better for a gradual episode to be released over time on a semi-fixed schedule.

Updates to the pledge drive have been added:-All pledge rewards will now have a “Revival League Membership” included -The collector’s DVD/Blu-ray box sets are now region-free -Pledge reward bundles have been added in order to get multiple rewards Definitely some welcome changes here! Good thing I waited a little bit longer before making a pledge, might consider getting a bundle now.

Looks like Netflix doesn't cover all production costs and they average a $100K loss per episode. Yikes.

Kind of a bummer. :/ Guess the pledge drive is a little more necessary than one might think. Joel explanation behind the costs make sense to me though. And on the plus side, it seems they're already halfway to their goal by now to at least break even.

I feel like some Economics 101 needs to be addressed before we blow this out of proportion: One cannot generate a stream of revenue off of one's product if the product is not yet available.
It's not uncommon for media to be in the negative in post-production. That's because they have to spend money to make it. One does not generate a profit until after it's released. Netflix does not reimburse the entire production costs of their shows, which is common knowledge so let's not pretend this is a surprise, which means they all either spend their own money to make them or find investment partners and spend their own money. And investors usually expect to see a net return for their investment, which also usually happens after release.
Would content creators prefer to break even before release date? Sure. Why wouldn't they? That would mean every dollar they make beyond that point is pure profit. But the fact that they're in the hole right now isn't a bad sign. It's to be expected, honestly. It's only a negative is Shout finds that eventual revenue can't cover that last stretch to home base, which I doubt is true.
This fundraiser is not them holding out a cup and saying "Spare change for the bus?" but rather both a merchandising stunt and a small reach for crowd investors who are still willing to invest. But the money to be gained from this venture still has yet to be tapped.

I feel like some Economics 101 needs to be addressed before we blow this out of proportion ... Excellent post. I will always like Joel, but I don't like the spin he's put on this pledge drive. Honestly, they just shouldn't call it a pledge drive. It's just merchandise pre-ordering for the new season. Which is fine. They whole 'pledge drive' thing to me, comes off a little sappy, cloying, disingenuous, i dunno.
