Sad to see this. But he was 84 after all. He could be a bit of an ass. Which in the long run was kind of cool. Mainly because of his eccentricity. He hated the TV Version of Star Trek (TOS) The City on the Edge of Forever. Since the original story had little to do with the Star Trek version. He hosted a show on the Sci-Fi channel when it was good. Called Sci-Fi BUZZ. I like his grouchiness. Also known for the story a boy and his dog and for The Twilight Zone. Rest Well Sir.. deadline.com/2018/06/harlan-ellison-dies-sci-fi-writer-was-84-1202419133/

I've read more about him than I've actually read his work. He seemed to be quite the character.
I did dig the movie version of "A Boy And His Dog" - the dog that played Tiger on "The Brady Bunch" played Blood - which prompted me to read the source material. I thought that it was wonderfully inventive and that I should check out more of Ellison's work (something I still haven't done).
I was excited to see that "Blood's A Rover" - new stories of Vic and Blood - comes out in two days.

Some talented writers seem to have that grouch/grump gene running strong through their veins. He certainly was talented, no question there.
Rest well, sir.
