Announced in July, Dark Horse will be publishing the first three issues next month: - September 12, 2018
- October 10, 2018
- November 14, 2018
(Actually, that Dark Horse had licensed the characters was known back in 2017, but the dates of publication weren't known until 2018 07. Or maybe it was June; I don't know, I thought I read July on their website.) I thought I'd kick off discussion with the so-called ashcan edition, which was given away as a freebie preview- cum-teaser and can be read (almost) freely on the Dark Horse website. I say Almost Freely because you need to create an account to do so — the payment is a trade for your email address. The procedure is simple, and doesn't require you to wait for any verification, but it is difficult to save the thing for offline viewing. digital.darkhorse.com/books/7845ec5c049e4073ba28939365bb9bbe/mystery-science-theater-3000-the-comic-ashcan-editionOverall, seems kind of fun. Some of the host segment stuff probably could've been composed or written better to suit the medium of graphic novels, but the illustrations were superb and most of the jokes were hilarious. I'll probably soon be preordering them through my local shop — soon as I hear back from the guy, that is … Well, looks like you guys already had a topic here: forrestcrow.proboards.com/thread/23774/mst3k-comic-book-launching-septemberI never thought to search that board — because, you know, it concerns the Relaunch characters and settings. Well, so I'll move my comments over there when I get my copies.

Your link doesn't work. I did go to their site, but I can't figure out how do do the free preview. When you click on their 'ashcan' link, it takes you to a preview of 'The Umbrella Academy'. Maybe the preview has expired?
Anyway, I'm not too excited about the comic. I like MST3K because I like to watch old cheesy movies with funny riffing friends, and occasionally take a break and maybe do something silly, often relating back to the movie at some level.

Yeah, that one link of theirs is screwy, for some reason. The link above works now, for those interested.
I mostly seem to like things such as this for the novelty, but then when I read through the whole thing, I decided that it seemed promising. Of course, this coming from someone who, with certain exceptions, generally doesn't like so–called graphic novels.

I have issue one on hold and ready to be picked up tomorrow! A review will be up shortly thereafter when i've had adequate time to process it.

Picked up a copy of the MST3K comic earlier today, got the last one at my local comic shop. It's really fun! I think the concept for riffing old comics works really well here and feels true to the style of the show. Got good laughs out of some of the riffs even in text form, it felt like I was "reading" a legit episode of MST3K. Looking forward to the next issues of the comic!

I like comics, I like MST3K. You'd think I'd be on top of this, but I'm really not. Will have to check out my local comics shop next time I'm in the big city*
* I live in the sticks, big city is an hour away and not that big.

Reviews at the comic book round-up have been mostly positive. I didn't link to it because going to the page just froze up my damn laptop. (they recently added video ads, I don't begrudge them making a few bucks, but not at the expense of screwing up my computer!! And this has happened a couple times to me since they started doing that.)
Anyhoo, seeing those high marks is encouraging. I plan to drive into town on the weekend and pick up my holds, and that'll definitely be my first read.

I look forward to hearing what you guys have to say. It's an interesting new piece of MST lore and I can't wait to hear varying opinions on what they did with it.
I have to admit, I haven't been in a comic shop in ages. I kind of dropped out for a while, but boy it felt good to be in one of those places again. I might start picking up a few more titles. I've heard IDW is doing some good work with the Ninja Turtles and that Boom is doing some cool stuff with the Power Rangers license. Maybe I'll start reading modern Spider-Man titles again, and see if I can seek out some solid Wonder Woman trades.

Selectively disabling javascript, and images, or using an adblocker, can be helpful for some such websites, but a no-javascript and text-only browser really simplifies things. Examples: Lynx, W3M. Okay, back on topic!

^Thanks, I'll look into that.
Well I read it. And enjoyed it.
The intro was overstuffed - they had to pack in a lot of set-up and introduce characters for the noobs. Understandable, but it makes it the weakest part of the comic. Plus, Synthia is waaay too animated and smart. I prefer her mechanical and a bit addled as in the show.
Once we get to the riffing, that's where it gets good. They distinguish the comic's original dialogue from the added stuff and riffs by way of a little bubble/circle on a word balloon. So it was easy to pick out what was old and what was new. I chuckled often, laughed out loud several times and just had a good time overall.
I'm happy with the purchase. It's a nice piece of my MST collection -- but it wasn't just a throw away thing that you buy for the brand. It's actually a solid, entertaining and funny part of the Mystery Science mythos.

I was searching for a copy of the original comic, when I found it on this site... comicbookplus.com/?dlid=33172If your curious to see what changes they made and what not (though I'd read the MST comic first, go in cold and enjoy the ride)
