From the article: "In other words, the show starts, movie begins, a host segment happens, the movie continues, another host segment happens, the movie ends, and the show ends." I read that as two host segments during the movie, so they're only dropping one of them.

I read that as two host segments during the movie, so they're only dropping one of them. That's also how I read it. Plus it sounds like we still have an intro and outro as well. (Wonder if there's still an invention exchange?) No Moon 13 bumpers for "commercial breaks" anymore, though.

Boo. I liked Patton’s voiceovers and the station identification. 😭

I really enjoyed the little bumpers with Patton talking about the movie and show, too. But two mid-movie host segments at least sounds better than just one. Kinda breaks the movie into three acts... and maybe they can have each skit last a tiny bit longer this way. Some felt really short last season.

Slightly bummed about losing a host segment & the commercial bumps, but I think it's a small sacrifice all things considered. Good to know they've improved the pacing for the riffs as well. I was also hoping they could explain how the new bots and SOL came about, but perhaps they'll save that for next season, at least I hope.

I always thought it would be funny if they had a Mike, Kevin, and Bill cameo where Mike and the Bots are still at Mike's apartment and they just got this "new" thing called "Netflix." They turn it on and find the new MST and are like "Hey! Who are those guys?!"

Hmm, not sure how I feel about losing a host segment. If we get higher quality skits, and lose less of the movies themselves, then I'm fine with it.
I am, however, all for cutting out those bumpers/commercial breaks. They got really annoying when watching Season 11 and added nothing to the show.

I liked the bumpers for the inside information they sometimes imparted last season. But I don't think they are necessary now. I'm okay with losing a skit. While I loved the originals, the new crews skits were (IMHO) pretty piss poor for the most part. Of course they could improve this season, and then I'll miss 'em It sounds like they are going to have fun with the way series are watched today, the binging stuff. Making that the running gag throughout. It's not how I grew up watching TV, but so what. I had my time, let the new generation have theirs. If they (the MST cast) can wring some laughs out of it, then that's all I need.

In a season 12 interview with the New York Times, Jonah said that when season 11 came out, Mike called him up and said “Hey, I checked out the new season. Great job. You’re very funny.” Jonah’s quote in the article, “that was a really nice moment, he didn’t need to do that.”
I thought that was neat to hear.

I am enormously disappointed to learn that they are still pre-recording the commentary. I was kind of floored when they boasted in the documentary about how they are all in the same sound booth this time, as if to say, "We learned our lesson!" That is a half measure at best. The lesson was supposed to be that the sound booth needs to be removed from the equation.

Having them all in the same Studio at the same time, however, is it least a big step forward from what they were doing before where it was basically an Abobe chop shop of putting together riffs.

What kills me is that the live show was fantastic precisely because it was unburdened by this weird remove between performer and performance that characterizes Season 11. The immediacy of the puppets being voiced and manipulated in tandem can't be faked, as it turns out, and the results were so obviously better on the tour that I had assumed it was just as obvious to Joel. It's like we're losing something elemental about the vibe of the show for the sake of seeing Servo flying around the theater.

Dubbing over a pre-shot shadow puppet show just seems over-complicated and the end result rather sterile.

I was struck at how funny the ‘bots were when they were off-the-cuff answering questions from the audience. The guys really thought on their feet very well.
