Why don't they release shorts between seasons to promote the show? Like I recall they riffed Stranger Things, but why not toss out a great 5 minute riff on a short. Quick host intro, mainly in the theater.

a "full-screen" film would simply be reframed (or "cropped") for widescreen. Most movies post 1953 are shot with a widescreen theatrical presentation in mind. I really don't think it's as big of a deal as you guys think it is. How many movies pre-1953 did the original show ever even do? Not that many! That's a good point. This Island Earth was shown widescreen in it's original theatrical run, although I've seen the exact aspect ratio hotly debated elsewhere. MST3K:TM is actually the only widescreen version of TIE currently available. Even the theater seats don't seem to cut off any important visual information. Might still be an issue if they ever did shorts again. I also wish they could do an animated film someday. The 1977 Raggedy Ann & Andy borders on nightmare fuel, and a few plot points presage Toy Story.

Interesting that Joel is the only host to not have riffed a widescreen HD movie. Though I guess the recent live shows count...

The live riff of World Without End ought to count.
