Probably a good a time as any to make this confession (if I haven't mentioned it before, I can't remember).
When i first saw 'Soultaker", I wasn't aware at that point that Joel Hodgson was the original host. I just knew he was the creator of the show. So when he turned up in the host segments, it didn't strike me as a "reunion" sort of thing, but rather a bizarre "breaking the 4th wall moment", where the creator of the show just shows up, and saves his characters.

The cable provider I had at the time the show was first airing didn't show Comedy Central, so I missed all of the first-run Joel era shows. I saw an article in TV Guide about the change in this show I'd never heard of (Joel leaving). There was a picture of Crow in the article (who would later become my favorite TV character ). I was mad that I didn't get Comedy Central because the show looked like something I would enjoy. The cable provider finally one day had a "sneak peek" of CC (they would sometimes do that for channels they didn't normally carry, for feedback on whether to carry it or not, I guess). So, finally I was able to watch this mysterious show that intrigued me so. It was a Japanese ep, maybe Fugitive Alien? (it was the one where Crow shouted, "hey, mom, where'd ya get the field?" or something, when a woman was running and all of a sudden looked like she was in another movie). I was cracking up, so I watched every show during that sneak peak week. I saw a Gamera ep and Manos. I was immediately hooked, so when my cable provider picked up Comedy Central permanently, I was thrilled and watched every ep and taped them as well. Most of the first eps I saw were Joel eps because they were repeats, then the switch, and I was like, "oh, yeah." Anyway, MST3K and Farscape are my favorite shows ever (and now Psych and BoJack Horseman can share that spot, also, depending on my mood).

I had known of the show's existence since I was a kid, but never actually sat down and watched it until my early 20s (circa 2006-07) when we'd have nights full of drinking, video games and movies at a friend's house darn near every night of the week. More often than not, the "movies" we'd watch would be an MST3K from one of the Rhino sets.
First eps I saw were Time Chasers and Space Mutiny.

May 14, 1993. A buddy and I had gone back to his place after a night of drinking. His roommate immediately started yammering about "Daddy-O" as we walked in the door. Apparently they had seen the episode a few times. My buddy informed me that "You have to see this puppet show" as we all hunkered down in front of their television. It was a perfect introduction and "Daddy-O" remains a personal favorite.

I was too young to watch or appreciate most of the series when it was on. My introduction was MST:The Movie, a rental, because I was vaguely familiar with This Island Earth as a kid (being a big fan of the Universal genre movies). Our cable company finally added Sci-Fi in 2000 and it wasn't long after that when I happened across a rerun of Prince of Space. I was 10 or 11 when I first started watching every weekend (even if Sci-Fi was only showing a handful of episodes at this point) and I started collecting the early Rhino releases around the same time. Santa Claus Conquers the Martians was the first Joel episode I saw in its entirety.

I discovered MST3K in 1997 when it aired for the first time on Sci-Fi Channel. I'd seen a couple ads about it coming to Sci-Fi while watching other things, and didn't really have a clue what it was, but the title had me interested, so I made a mental note to remember to check it out... and then completely forgot, but happened to coincidentally turn to the Sci-Fi Channel a couple minutes after the first episode for the network, Revenge of the Creature, had started playing. I was immediately hooked.
