I might just be overthinking things, but I've noticed quite a few politically-charged jokes in the new MST3K. Examples include making riffs about BlackLivesMatter and NotAllMen, and Bobo calling himself a "useful moron" in Cry Wilderness. I know people in the entertainment industry tend to lean FAR left, and Felicia Day and Patton Oswalt, who are both outspoken liberals, are on the show, but it kind of concerns me. I don't want to hear about politics when I watch MST3K. I want to watch a guy and his robot friends make fun of a shitty movie.

I don't think what few political jokes there are (and they are very few) are any more pointed than what the original show had. The vast majority are of the "how about them clowns in congress" variety.

Oh no, I'm being reminded the Real world exists! My bubble is being invaded by events I don't want to hear about!
But seriously. Would you have been outraged by the original series' Bob Dole, George Bush, Bob Dornan, Bill Clinton, Newt Gingrich (We've made a contract WITH AMERICA), etc jokes? Did supercalifragilisticexpiali-wacky sketch make you sweat bullets because they were talking about the crime bill or the deficit?
If out of everything the new show fails in, or comes up short in some way with, your takeaway complaint is that they mentioned Black Lives Matter once, then you've got bigger issues.
I don't mean to sound too much like a dick (it comes naturally), but come on. Its not like the show is hosted by Bill Maher and they make nothing but Trump jokes every episode. The amount of political jokes are minute. The people making the show don't have secret agendas to influence you. And your "THE LIBRULS ARE INVADING MAH SHOW" concerns are laughable.

I don't like the political jokes either (either in the new episodes or the old ones), but so far they've been pretty rare and tame. I get the impression that the new people understand that MST3k owes a lot of its success to being both family-friendly and apolitical, so they've tried to retain those elements in the new show (mostly successfully, I think).

I'll only speak of seasons 2-10, but..... I've never considered MST3K to be apolitical. In fact they've been quite the opposite. They've made countless riffs aimed at social inequality (particularly during the shorts) along with barbs for numerous political figures throughout the above time frame. And so long as they're clever and funny - most have been, and some extremely - I don't see how anybody would ever be turned off by them.

You know, when the head writer and second host was a Republican...

Strangely, I think the original run had more Trump jokes in it than they've made in the two new seasons.

“The opinion that art should have nothing to do with politics is itself a political attitude.”
