In a couple weeks (April 25 - 28 2019), Joel and Mary Jo are hosting the first ever Mystery Science Expo 3000 event in Rhode Island: bit.ly/ODE_MST3K_EXPOI volunteer at the theater and thought people visiting this message board would want the heads up while there is still time to book travel, connect with attending MSTies, etc. Marketing Text: The Greenwich Odeum presents Mystery Science Expo 3000 with special guests: show-creator Joel Hodgson, and original series writer and performer of beloved Mad Scientist Pearl Forrester, Mary Jo Pehl! Between the two of them, Joel and Mary Jo have written or performed on every Mystery Science Theater 3000 episode ever produced. (Back to me now) Feel free to ask me anything about this event - tickets / pricing / etc. Thanks, Kevin

Do message board members get free admission/airfare?
Also, how did the event come together?

Do message board members get free admission/airfare? Also, how did the event come together? Thanks for your question! Love that idea regarding free admission and airfare - might be a little late to pull that together in such short order though! The Mystery Science Expo 3000 event came together as Joel did a one off event at the Greenwich Odeum back in 2015. Obviously with Kickstarter and Netflix, Joel has been busy since then, so we didn't ask about Joel coming back to the little theater in Rhode Island. With a little bit of a break, Joel was responsive to build an event at the Greenwich Odeum; our timing aligned with an Expo / Film Festival idea that he was looking to try out.

Welcome to the board, kunderscorerock3000, and thanks for the heads up concerning this event! I've never been to Rhode Island, and I'm a loooooooooooong way from there, so I'm pretty sure I'll have to miss it. But it sounds like a cool gig!
Just a note, the link in your post appears to be broken.
Again, thanks for stopping by!

Did the venue have any suggestions about what episodes will be screened or was that left entirely to Joel? And will any other Alternaversal be attending?

The Greenwich Odeum did not have any say on the movies selected. It's a great collection though: - The Day the Earth Froze
- Mitchell
- Laserblast
- Merlin's Shop of Mystical Wonders
- Cry Wilderness
- Mac and Me

Is this something intended to be an annual event?

I live so close, right on the Mass border. I'm very tempted to come!

Is this something intended to be an annual event? There are no plans for future events at this point (either in Rhode Island or elsewhere). It might be one of a kind.

I live so close, right on the Mass border. I'm very tempted to come! You really should! It's going to be a fun couple days! <iframe width="22.920000000000073" height="2.9200000000000017" style="position: absolute; width: 22.920000000000073px; height: 2.9200000000000017px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none;left: 15px; top: -5px;" id="MoatPxIOPT1_26628673" scrolling="no"></iframe> <iframe width="22.920000000000073" height="2.9200000000000017" style="position: absolute; width: 22.92px; height: 2.92px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 1087px; top: -5px;" id="MoatPxIOPT1_84019940" scrolling="no"></iframe> <iframe width="22.920000000000073" height="2.9200000000000017" style="position: absolute; width: 22.92px; height: 2.92px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 15px; top: 135px;" id="MoatPxIOPT1_97605161" scrolling="no"></iframe> <iframe width="22.920000000000073" height="2.9200000000000017" style="position: absolute; width: 22.92px; height: 2.92px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 1087px; top: 135px;" id="MoatPxIOPT1_31558638" scrolling="no"></iframe>

I live in RI. Frank and Trace have had a few shows there. The place is old but very pretty. It's set up for plays and works great for this type event. When Trace and Frank were there they were really close to the audience. It's not like in a stadium where the people are like tiny dots way off.
I'd love to see the show but I can't afford it. With Trace and Frank, they riffed the show live and you had a chance to talk to them briefly one on one. With this show its watching a prerecorded movie and a Q&A session. If I had more money it would be worthwhile.

Trace & Frank and the live riffing is really awesome - there's no denying that! And you're right about the Greenwich Odeum - its less than 400 seats, so you're not lost in some arena. With these EXPO events - it is not live riffing - you're watching classic and new episodes on a large screen with a live audience. Most of the movies have a discussion session with Mary Jo and Joel to discuss behind the scenes stories around the episodes (like Joel's back story on 'Mitchell') and there's a bar for adult refreshments. It's like a film festival in that way. The additional events like "Mary Joel" is fully live performance and "Creativity Workshop" is really unique as you're working with Mary Jo and Joel in the creative process. It's a whole weekend of events - you can pick and choose what you want to attend.

I wish I could get there, but I can't. Will any part of the Expo be recorded for future release?

I wish I could get there, but I can't. Will any part of the Expo be recorded for future release? That's a great question. The details are under wraps for now, but the Creativity Workshop has the highest likelihood of recorded content for future release. Participants need to sign an Non-disclosure agreement to participate in the workshop, so I should stop short of saving anything more.
