My theories:
Fathom and RiffTrax might have an agreement to prevent Fathom from airing similar events that could eat into RiffTrax events sales.
Joel might worry such a broadcast could cannibalize ticket sales for the live shows.
Netflix might have a restriction preventing Joel from creating new MST3K content for another service/outlet. I would bet on this being the most likely.
I may be wrong. That’s why I create lots of theories.

Plus the live shows are MUCH more profitable, especially when you factor in the meet and greets and merchandise sales.

Did they sent out an email update? The last email I got from MST3K was all the way back on February 1st about a sale at the official website store. I keep seeing "sign up for our newsletter" at MST3K.com and now MST3KLive.com but I've never gotten a newsletter once in over two years.

Almost all major MST3k news has been delivered that way for the past couple years.

They shouldn't be sending this stuff out only through the Kickstarter updates, because there are a lot of fans who weren't part of the Kickstarter or the Pledge Drive who would like to be informed. A newsletter was one of the things discussed when Season 11 was released and nothing has ever come of it but promises and pop-ups on MST3K.com asking you to sign up for the mailing list.

I got an email today, and not through Kickstarter. They said it was the first of several bi-weekly emails, and there were new tour dates included. So if you didn't get it, subscribe or re-subscribe.

Chicago show finally announced! Though looks like only one of the movies will be riffed. Still waiting for tickets to go on sale.

I'm not sure yet I'll be able to make the local date on the tour but I've really enjoyed following the BTS updates. It looks like a lot of fun and at least it will be very visually entertaining.

They announced a live show in Des Moines, which I’m thrilled about. My wife told me to buy a VIP pass for myself, and I didn’t resist the idea too hard.

Just purchased tickets for the Chicago show. Gotta say, I was surprised by the ticket prices. Anything on the main floor or front balcony was $71 + about $20 in fees. I managed to get a $30 ticket just after the high priced rows but with fees it came out to $50.
For comparison, the last show was $50 a person with $4 fees and I managed to get some great front row balcony seats. So for the same location (albeit a different theater) this year, I would be spending $200 on two tickets!
The inflated prices are hopefully justified, given this year's show looks to not include any onscreen talent from the show aside from Crow's puppeteer and of course Joel.

Oddly, tickets were really reasonably priced in Des Moines, with low fees,

The tour merch definitely has declined in quality from past tours. Seems to be a lot of recycled art and nothing too unique. I'm hoping more tour merch appears at the shows themselves, stuff like script books or posters with unique art.

Holy moly! They're coming to my town! This is the first time any of the riffers have had a show here!
