I was going through some old papers and I found a letter that Comedy Central sent me in 1991. Comedy Central wanted to tell me about the Turkey Day Marathon. They sent it by snail mail. Attachments:

That is really cool. Just curious, was there a reason you got mail from Comedy Central? Was it through your cable provider? I used to get mail from Best Brains but I don't ever remember getting anything from Comedy Central.

There were less than 2200 members when I joined. I put it in a box with financial stuff I wanted to save 30+ years ago and just looked through the box last night. I didn't keep the envelope.

Yeah I joined when there were just over 6,000 members, and it was probably just after the show switched to Comedy Central. They must have requested some fan addresses for promotional stuff. Very cool little item, I'd say

Yes, it's quite true that TFNWSRN was very quick to praise MST3K and value its presence on the network. Then, Doug Herzog took command and wanted to promote his own projects, and I understand he was not particularly enamored of MST3K. Thus, the downward spiral began until the network all but denied that the show ever existed on its roster. Fortunately, I understand it's been a bit better in acknowledging the show.

Certainly better than when Comedy Central had that 13th anniversary special and there was no mention of it.

The weirdest thing about the letter is the introduction, after "Dear MST3K Fan"
"Sure, you would rather receive a letter from Ed McMahon saying you just won $1,000,000 from Publishers Clearing House, but we're a comedy network, so how about the next best thing?"
First, the PCH thing has nothing to do with MST3K. Second, Ed McMahon never was a spokesman for PCH. He was the spokesman for a competitor, though.
And remember to buy Ed McMahon's Budweiser Ice Cream! Hayoooh! (hiccup)

Well, either they were trying to be funny by mismatching things, or they simply wanted to slip in a riff type reference and got it wrong. It was MUCH harder to verify facts back in the pre-internet days of 1991.
And, that letter is awesome. Look at all those old eps!
I remember those @midnight eps! Although, I don't remember any details. Maybe not very funny? Or I'm just old.
