Wasn't Emily Marsh (Crenshaw) being set up as the new host during the Cheesy tour? She was good in the live show I saw (NRNS)
Not that continuity ever meant a lot to me, even when I was new to the show. Yup, puppets, mad scientist, uh hu, got it, now make me laugh.

I've also noticed that Joel has been relegating a lot of the plot to the live shows. The first Netflix era live show, the Watch Out For Snakes! Tour, was perfect. Big budget, nearly the whole TV cast, not tied too much to TV continuity so we could "just relax". For continuity fans, like myself, it could sit any time during season 11. Whatever.
The 30th Anniversary Tour was kind of a mess. The show itself was solid, but the story took place AFTER season 12 and yet Netflix aired season 12 after the tour. So the whole thing didn't make sense until after you saw season 12. So doesn't that make the 30th anniversary tour season 13? Oh wait...
The Great Cheesy Movie Circus Tour is Joel's season 13, but none of the cast from the TV show returns, nor do the previous tour cast. Despite bing a lot of fun and very funny, it felt cheap. Oh, and apparently Emily Crenshaw is the new host.
So that leads us into Sunday's show, which picks up from here. So basically, if you've only ever seen the TV show, this special will be very very confusing. hahaJoel has consistently assumed that all of the fans have seen the live shows. I sort of got into it on Twitter with him about this last summer; several people tried to explain to him that even with such a long tour, not all fans can see a show in person. He finally seemed to accept that besides fans outside the US not being able to go, there are fans who don't have the financial means, or a way to travel the distance required, or who have physical or other disabilities that make going to a live show impossible, or who have caregiving or other responsibilities that mean they can't attend. I'm of the opinion that if something is only available to some of the fans, it shouldn't be considered canon, but I'm in the minority and it's obvious Joel doesn't feel that way.

They should've recorded all the live shows (not every single one, just one each of all the different movies that were shown and the stories that went with them). That way they could've released the live shows on DVD at a later date so people who couldn't make it to the shows themselves could still see it, and those that DID go could relive the experience and that would also have increased their revenue as well. I will definitely be tuning in for this riff-along, though. Might prove interesting. Maybe this will turn into a new platform for the show. After a test run of eps that have already aired, maybe after the quarantine is lifted it becomes the new way of seeing new eps.

Count me in on watching this, but I don't know how I feel about riffing over an old finished episode. MOON ZERO TWO?! One of the most forgettable episodes of the entire series (maybe that's why they chose it?). This could be super clunky. Like when Barbra Streisand (on a 90's rarities box set) recorded a faux-duet with her 13-year old self using an old demo.
Seriously though, why not just do a "live" riff of EEGAH or another title they already have scripts to? That's kind of what I thought they'd be doing when the watch-along was announced. This feels like a waste of their talents.

I actually like Moon Zero Two as a movie and rewatch the episode occasionally. I've often said I'd like to see a re-riff of it. But a riff-over is no bueno. It's not an early Season 1 episode, there aren't THAT many missed riffs or empty gaps. Puzzling.

I had no problem with the touring cast. I'll certainly be watching it. I just have to choose one of the many questions I have for Joel.

The new tour cast is solid. The new Tom and Crow eerily slide into how you expect them to sound/act.
Fine with Emily being the new host. A female host is a pretty good idea in terms of balance because it's so clearly differentiated from the two male robot voices.
You know, when the first season of the reboot came out I was stunned by the newness at first. Now I'm chill. New hosts? Sure. New robot voices? Sure. New robots? Why the he'll not? Bring it on!

My one regret about this is I probably won't be able to see it uninterrupted. I help teach my church's Bible study, and we're meeting online these days due to
Waves arms generally at the world
all of that over there, and it starts at, like, 4:30. We'll probably wrap up before it's over so I should still be able to catch some of it (and I might take a glimpse if there's any downtime during the meet up) but I think I'll mostly be seeing this one after the fact. Still! I'm lookin' forward to it.

Dammit. I lost track of time and missed this. I can't see it anywhere on YouTube, it doesn't come up when I hit the MST3K official channel or type in riff along on the search. Does anyone know if they are going to keep the video up on YouTube? (If I find it).
Don't have Facebook so I can't watch the aftershow.

Here's a link to the full show: youtu.be/1ZXMttOWzLYI thought it was okay. Best thing about it was the new short at the end, which was REALLY short. I really like Emily though and hope she gets to riff her own movie someday instead of just an old episode.

They didn't do much at first, but at the point in the movie where they visit the brother's claim, they (the modern crew) were throwing in more quips.... plus it was cute when the door hit Emily. You could also see her smiling and chuckling over the original riffs, etc, throughout.
Glad the Facebook viewers were in a positive mood... I mean this was done in fun, to give us a break, so even if the new stuff wasn't stellar, it was a nice gesture - so thank you Joel and the gang for this.
Watching the aftershow now.

I found the Circus Day short on Youtube, and it was 18 minutes long, so yeah they really cut it down

Watching the after show. Kind of weird hearing Joel call Gypsy, even when referring to seasons 1-12, as GPC.
