EDIT: Original list has been changed to include 421 and 504, which have been confirmed to include slates on the reissue discs.
Hi gang - created an account just to post this, so any help is much appreciated.
I'm a big fan of the "Reel One" slate cards that preceded most episodes from 403 - 519, and although my DVD collection is complete, they stretch back to the Rhino days and I haven't been able to keep up with all the Shout factory reissues beginning with Volume 3.
On the DVD problems thread, someone's list seemed to imply that the Monster A-Go-Go and Secret Agent Super Dragon reissues (from Shout Vol 8 and 12 respectively) might have a slate attached. I doubt that, but double checking.
Can you tell me if the below lists, identifying which episodes are available with slate cards intact and which are not, is accurate?
EPISODES THAT INCLUDE A SLATE CARD ON DVD TRANSFER 403 - City Limits 405 - Being From Another Planet 411 - The Magic Sword 412 - Hercules and the Captive Women 420 - Human Duplicators 421 - Monster A-Go-Go (Shout Vol 8 reissue) 422 - The Day The Earth Froze 424 - Manos: The Hands of Fate (Shout Single Reissue) 502 - Hercules 504 - Secret Agent Super Dragon (Shout Vol 12 Reissue) [NOTE: Full unaired slate restored] 508 - Operation Double 007 510 - Painted Hills 511 - Gunslinger (Shout Single Version) 512 - Mitchell (Shout 25th Anniversary Boxed Set Reissue) 513 - The Brain That Wouldn't Die (Shout 25th Anniversary Boxed Set Reissue) 516 - Alien From L.A. 518 - Atomic Brain (all Shout Reissues) 519 - Outlaw
EPISODES THAT DO NOT INCLUDE A SLATE CARD ON ANY AVAILABLE TRANSFERS 404 - Teenagers From Outer Space 407 - Killer Shrews 408 - Hercules Unchained 409 - Indestructible Man 410 - Hercules Against the Moon Men 413 - Manhunt in Space 414 - Tormented 415 - Beatniks 417 - Crash of the Moons 419 - Rebel Set 423 - Bride of the Monster 501 - Warrior of the Lost World 503 - Swamp Diamonds 505 - The Magic Voyage of Sinbad 506 - Eegah (criminal that they didn't include this on the Singles Reissue) 507 - I Accuse My Parents (ditto to Eegah) 509 - Girl in Lovers Lane 514 - Teen Age Strangler 515 - Wild, Wild World of Batwoman (more negligence from Shout here on Reissue botch)
NOT APPLICABLE 406 - Attack of the Giant Leeches (no slate) 416 - Fire Maidens of Outer Space (no DVD) 418 - Attack of the the Eye Creatures (no DVD) 517 - Beginning of the End (no slate)

your lists should be accurate, although i don't have the re-issues of vol. 7-12 to confirm for certain that the episodes on them are the same as the original editions from rhino. same goes for 413 & 415 on the "lost and found" collection.

Shout! said for the Lost and Found Collection DVD that the episodes haven't been changed from their original release, meaning sadly no slate card. Your list looks fairly accurate, but I'm not the right person to judge, as I don't own all the boxsets. I'm annoyed that Shout! didn't even bother to reinstate the slates for Eegah and I Accuse My Parents, but then again, they've forgotten some of the MST Hour Wraps for certain releases as well, so I shouldn't be too surprised at this point.

Thank you both. Does anyone know the best way to let Shout Factory know that in the future, these Slate Cards are just as essential to the Turn Down Your Lights intro? Have they been receptive to feedback?
Seems weird that one gets preferred over the other.

Monster A Go-Go and Secret Agent Super Dragon, when they run on Twitch, have slates (504's slate actually runs longer than the broadcast version, which was always truncated). I assume the DVDs would have them, too. I haven't checked to see if they're like that on Shout's on demand site.
(104 Women of the Prehistoric Planet has a slate on Twitch, as well, though it's not like the others. 1004 Future War has a Sci-Fi era slate on its Twitch airing.)

To be honest I’d say they started to get pretty lazy with their releases by 2014/15. The fact that they didn’t even bother with some MST hour wraps says enough.

I was always wondering why 504 was so brief! Too bad there’s no upload of it on YouTube because I would love to hear that slate.

I haven't seen 1004 on Twitch but I know 104's slate is functionally different than the ones from 403 to 519. Every MST episode would have been produced with a title slate like that, but it was only intended for the network. Somewhere in one of the many Sci-Fi Channel chat logs, Kevin (I think) explained that they included a second slate in the Season 4 and 5 episodes--intended to be broadcast--as a sort of gag for the fans... or something like that. I'm sure that practice occasionally caused headaches in the Comedy Central control room. TLDR: the 104 slate seen on Twitch shouldn't have been and probably wasn't seen on TV. But it's neat that we have it, especially since it confirms that some of the long-suspected Season 1 broadcast dates are wrong.

As soon as it reached Volume XXXII and they forgot to add in the MST Hour Wraps for Space Travelers, that's when they started to get lazier than they have prior before the release of the Gamera Boxset. The Gamera Boxset was the step in the right direction (they finally started to add the TURN DOWN YOUR LIGHTS and the slates in the other boxsets afterwards). Now, I don't understand why they haven't had the energy to release both MST Hour Wraps and slates on the re-releases of the Rhino Boxsets. But they are doing so with the Twitch stream? I don't know what's happening with Shout!

Has anyone recorded these slates and put them somewhere? I know that someone here did for 104 - WOMEN OF THE PREHISTORIC PLANET airing on Twitch. Seeing them in decent quality would be nice and interesting to see slates for episodes that didn't have them (e.g. Future War)

It would be pretty funny if "someone" turned out to be the only person who could actually answer this, but your rude tone annoyed them and made them less inclined to double check the discs and answer you.

The weird thing is, "I Accuse My Parents" was missing more footage than any other Rhino release. There was an entire joke that got cut out around the commercial break without the bumper. So they actually did fix that one, *and* they found the Hour Wraps that no fans had ever seen before, but they forgot the damned title slate!

I'm sorry about that. I did not intend to have a rude tone... I greatly appreciated the work you did in compiling that comprehensive list of DVD problems. I just thought maybe the 421 or 504 omissions were unintentional, since it's hard for me to believe Shout gave a damn about the transfers by Volumes 8 & 12. I should have directly replied to you on that thread, but I wanted to start a chain that focused on just the slate cards. Would you mind letting me know if these reissue discs have their slates intact?

No worries, just busting your chops a bit. Monster A Go-Go is intact. Super Dragon is as described upthread, which is obviously not as aired but is presumably as intended. As far as that goes, I don't have any idea what happened, but I would guess that there was some kind of problem when they created the master copy for Comedy Central, that the tape was started just late enough to cut off most of the slate. I don't know that, but it would explain why all the off-air recordings are one way when the original master tape is intact. (It's also possible that they simply created a lookalike after-the-fact.)
I have a feeling that when they forgot to fix vol 7, they got negative feedback, so they remembered to fix the one episode in vol 8. But then vol 9 didn't have any missing slates, so by the time vol 10 came around, they either forgot or there were fewer people working on the project (this would've been around when Shout ran out of available episodes to license). After that, they didn't fix the slates in any further episodes *except* "Super Dragon", and since that was always an oddity, I suspect that back when they "still cared", somebody who was working there looked ahead and made sure that one got fixed rather than risking it get forgotten later.
