Shown on tiny screens inside the big static shot.

There were some clips of the Santo movie in the opening, similar to how little bits of each movie were shown during the Netflix credits. You're right; I didn't even notice. But they're small superimpositions, rather than cutaway shots to the theater, which is what I would want to see.

I kinda like the intro being a single shot, with the camera traveling to different locations. I just wish that it was more visually interesting. I really wish the hosts were featured in it. Even little portraits of Joel, Jonah, and Emily would be better than nothing. I also feel like some of the lyric changes were unnecessary. Next Sunday A.D. is such an iconic lyric in the original theme song. Why did it need to be changed to "Next Sunday afternoon"? I know it's a really small and pointless change, but it's also one that I feel didn't need to be made.

But if they changed Gypsy's name for political correctness reasons, I have to wonder if they changed A.D. ("in the year of the Lord") for similar reasons.

I doubt it. I think they were just trying to make the new theme song as unique as possible, but it's still a dumb change.

My thinking is that they changed it for the rhyme, to take us to Moon, which guides us to the Gizmoplex, and introduces us to this new stage of the show. But yeah, while I get it, I'd like my A.D. back

It's fits with the whole feel of the new show. Next Sunday A.D is a joke, mixing a relative time with a fixed time format (I know, explaining the joke...), as well as subverting the previous line of "in the not too distant future". It's funny and cleverly formatted. "Next Sunday afternoon" isn't a joke at all, it's just boring. I'm surprised they still call it the "Satellite of Love" cuz no one gets it and lets just call it the Gizmo shuttle or something. It's probably cuz no one there gets the "Satellite of Love" joke either and just thinks its a fun, catchy name that brings the feels.

It's not like this is unprecedented:
"In the not too distant future, somewhere in time in space, Mike Nelson and his robot pals are caught in an endless chase."
No A.D., no joke.

Honestly, I kinda forgot they changed that lyric during the later seasons. There's also "way down in Deep 13" for the Comedy Central Mike era. I guess it's not so bad that the lyric is different. What bothers me is that it sounds like it would say A.D. because it has that "Next Sunday..." lead in. Again, it's a very small stupid detail that doesn't even matter. I shouldn't have even mentioned it in the first place.

I can't believe they did an L-7 reference. I saw L-7 way back, when they opened up for the Beastie Boys. I don't think many heard of L-7.

I've now seen the intro and I can say without a doubt that I don't like it. Surprisingly, most of the criticism is leveled at the cheap CGI, which I'll agree is cheap looking, but that doesn't bother me as much as just how static the whole thing is. It's a stationary camera and a single shot of the Mads' laboratory. No shots of movies. No shots of Jonah repairing the bots. No shots of upcoming sketches. No shots of anything, really. It's just so static and uninteresting, and it doesn't bring the SOL to life the way the old intros did. Oh, and Baron's singing... aaaargh. it really does suck. bad. I am 100% in on doing my own edit of this episode if that is what it looks like in the final form.. swapping in the netflix intro and the door sequence... cut down the mads stuff. Thankfully the movie/riffing was hilarious and the wrestling sketch was top tier. I think it's a great episode overall.

Re: no A.D. in sci fi era: oh yeah.
L-7: yeah, made me laugh. One of my wife's favorite bands from the 90s.

This was the person who brought us The TV Wheel, so why would static shots surprise us?

They created a rough cut of the episode for backers aaaaaaand, the sound level differences are even more pronounced. It's actually worse for me.
The riffs and host segs are currently all the same level, so I don't have to turn down the volume on skits, but in this cut the movie bits are way too low. (Before, I could hear a slight difference, but now it's like what others were reporting, very extreme difference)
I filled out the survey they wanted us to fill out, reporting all this, and how I watched and such (I watched it 3 different ways, through laptop, through TV, with and without phones - and got the same results).
In the update they said they are not hearing the sound level problem on their end and that's what's making it difficult to pin down (here, I'll invite you to my house so you can hear what I'm hearing, lol)
Synching issue was fixed. No commercials in this rough cut - they hit intermission sign, it goes dark, then they come right back. Which was odd, they should at least slot in the moon and music of old, like on the classic era discs. It would make for a smoother transition. No end credits or stinger yet.
