I dunno, That KS gave them something like $300K per episode, and you only have to build a set (or I guess design a static green-screen overlay) once for the whole season. Well yeah but I think we established they weren’t good with money

Really easy for you to say. They're not going to put the man hours and ingenuity into building a fantastic set just to trash it when its over because they have no place to keep it. And then get up and do it all over again for each shoot. That's what not being good with money actually looks like.

The entire 24 minute short "Pipeline to the Clouds" can be viewed here: www.loc.gov/item/2018601447/I haven't seen the MST version yet, but I read Torgo's review where he said it felt like the short was showing a lot of imagery but not saying anything substantial about it, and so it felt like the writers had an uphill battle to find anything to latch onto. I don't know how long the riffed version was, exactly, and I'm not getting into the battle here about how much you can edit out of content before the content becomes incomprehensible, but for anyone who is interested in seeing what was left in and what was taken out, here you go.

24 minutes?! Ha, as if.
They cut it down to a svelte and trim (and exact) 10 minutes. Yes, 10 minutes, 0 seconds.
I THOUGHT that short felt...not just short but insubstantial and incomplete and now I know why. It was missing roughly 60% of its run time.
Why?!?
Really? What is the everloving point? These are totally unconnected shorts. Being broadcast separately. Aa events centering around the release of a new short, WHY ARE THEY CUTTING THEM DOWN LIKE THIS?
And yes there was a lot of empty space in that short and a lot of missed opportunities in that small 10-minute window.
Baffling.

There was dead space in the short to cut, but not 14 minutes worth, probably closer to 8 or 9 minutes. This would have been good to come in around 14-15 minutes without losing any of the message of the short, a pretty basic explanation of the water cycle, of how drinking water is processed, stored, and delivered, and the necessity of investing in infrastructure to ensure an adequate water supply for growing US demand. Cut the intro and outro songs, most of the pretty nature shots, and the endless shots of GE turbines and pumps, and that's most of the editing done for you. (Again, I don't know what was left in the riffed version, but it sounds like they are cutting to a arbitrary length if it's EXACTLY 10 minutes.)
Since the shorts are being released separately, I can't think of an obvious reason to edit so severely, because they don't have to fit with a movie in a 90 minute time slot. 12 or 14, or 15 minutes isn't impossibly long to write for, and I reject the concept that the audience will get too bored and tune out watching a short if it's 14 minutes and has a couple of "boring" shots. If they don't all fit on a single DVD, well, put them on 2 DVDs for the box set. I don't know, it seems almost like the idea exists that a short HAS to be 10 minutes long, or else.

Saw the intro and the short:
- Pearl is always great. But, the skit still wasn't great. She stumbled over a line or two, like she got one single take. Not a good sign for the host segs this season.
- Short was good. I agree with everything people said here, but bottom line, it was good. I watch a lot of riffing still, RiffTrax, The Mads, other stuff. The riffing in this riff was solid. not too slow or fast. Some clever stuff here and there. A few real laughs.
- I've seen enough now, Baron Vaughn's Servo is no good. Jonah is fine. Hampton Yount's Crow is actually pretty good. But, Baron-- no. I don't know what he's trying to do with the character and voice, but it's a fail. His delivery on that The Count bit was terrible.

Except that it's just a real table, wooden, maybe a kitchen table. It looks silly, or I guess makes the clipart space controls look more silly, whichever perspective you want to take. A comedy show, looking silly? That's preposterous! Okay in all seriousness, I get that it looks cheap. However, I feel calling it silly isn't an appropriate criticism, since the show always had that cheesy look. They're at least making some improvements with the green screen. For me, the thing that annoys me the most are those ugly wigs Pearl and Synthia are wearing. Seriously, those are terrible. Get rid of them, please.

Also, why do they feel the need to cut down the shorts now? They did it before too with that Circus Day short, which they only showed three minutes of. If they're not part of episodes, then don't cut them down! At least, don't cut them too much. I highly doubt that fans are gonna be bored by a 15+ minute long short. And if they feel like they can't write enough material for it, then... I don't even know what to say.

Maybe they just thought the longer short was boring. I'm bored right now talking about this!

The thing is, he has a normal voice. His normal acting voice is perfectly fine. If he used it riffing, it'd be perfectly acceptable. The problem is his terrible affectations as Servo. It was calmed down in 1301, but back in full for the short.
It's like he misunderstands the assignment and thinks the role calls for him to be as hammy and campy as possible. And those were aspects of Kevin's Servo, to be sure, but not EVERY line. And not the only aspects, either.
The unnecessary rushing of lines. The shouting. The raised end of every sentence to emphasise that its supposed to be funny but also makes it sound like a question. The terrible impressions. And the tone deaf singing. Just awful.
If we lose the Netflix crew I won't mourn the loss of his Servo. The biggest loss is Hampton's killer Crow.

You know, I like him otherwise, I thought he was quick and funny and very personable in the Kickstarter livestreams he participated in. The same with Yvonne Freese, I like her in interviews and such, but Mega-Synthia is grating as heck (and I know, she supposed to be annoying, but it's too over the top for me)

I cannot deal with Mega-Synthia so far. Baron's Servo took some time for me in S11 but I am fine with him. I think he sometimes gets the less brilliant riffs, which grates. Anything but Kevin was always going to be a big adjustment for me; I was not fond of Josh's Servo when I finally got to hear him.
