So I just got back from enjoying the Dr. and Mrs. Z museum and tiki porch. It was a great time, and pictures are forthcoming.
I thought it deserved its own thread, rather than muddying up the big meet-up thread.
I highly recommend visiting St. Augustine and the Zs. We had dinner at a great restaurant hide-away, then capped it off with some tiki drinks and a viewing of Progress Island USA.
GAMBLING!!

Coolness. Looking forward to the pix. When I discover untold riches I'd like to visit St. Augustine - I mean, they named the place after a pretty righteous dude.
I'd invite everyone to Spokane... but all we do here is stare at the walls. ;D
Oh, okay, since I've been back I've discovered that Spokane discovered music, and downtown is pretty hopping. Much more than when I was a lad.

Okay, here goes. I had a conference in Orlando last week. I had a free day on Friday, so I decided to see the Atlantic Coast. First, I went to Daytona, where I understand they throw big parties in the Spring: The Atlantic was nice and blue: I have a friend whose really into NASCAR, so in his honor, I stopped by the Speedway. There was a statue to someone who apparently is their God. There were "3s" everywhere, so he must be a Triune God: Since I didn't have any chickens to sacrifice to the bronze deity, I decided to make my way up the coast to St. Augustine. On Dr. Z's recommendation, I visited "The Fort": It was very cool and old. I thought the water marks looked like people: I saw some Time Chasers extras right after they fired the cannon. I was a bit surprised that DoctorZ was not in this group: I posed in front of one of the cannons. I resisted the urge to strike a more Freudian pose:

St. Augustine is one helluva town.
Yep, that's all I've got to contribute.

After behaving like a mindless tourist, I finally met the good Doctor and Mrs. Z. They took me out for dinner at a great backwoods restaurant. The Zs had steamed oysters: Then we went back to their house and they showed me a very impressive collection of antique weaponry. It was enough to fill a museum. They also collect other things, such as the magnets of that Austin transvestite that Mitchell sent the good Doc: To close the tour, I finally saw what Doc called, "The heart of the beast"-- the tiki porch. With Mai Tai in hand, I settled in for a lovely evening of kicking back and conversation: When Mrs. Z mentioned that she often travels to Puerto Rico for work, it was decided that we watch "Progress Island USA" before I departed. A great time was had by all, and I highly recommend meeting such a nice couple.

Ha! Great pictures Mr. Atari. It was my pleasure to have you visit us. The visit was too brief, but I think we made the best of it. Come see us again some time. The best part of the trip was getting my wife to sit down and actually watch more than 2 minutes of MST3K! Mrs.Dr.Dr.Z (she is a PhD after all so we are going to put in the 2cd Dr.) goes to Puerto Rico regularly for her job so we insisted she sit down and watch the "Prosperity Island" short with us. She actually liked it! It was great to sit down with a real fan of the show and watch some MST3K. I hope we didn't bore you with all our showing off the collections. (Their house is a museum, when people come to see 'em, it really is a....heard that somewhere before? ) Anyway, thanks for the visit and you did a lot to squash any lingering reservations I had about the get together in Denver. P.S. NASCAR does have many gods but the number 3 you are speaking of is Dale Earnhardt. He is to NASCAR what Elvis is to Rock and Roll. He was killed at the Daytona Track some years ago. He was the hero of thousands and especially an icon for mean-spirited rednecks due to his agressive driving style. If you ever see that swept back number 3 festooned on a truck, car, place of business or house, you can bet it's some die hard Dale Earnhardt, NASCAR fan and they will have absolutely no sense of humor about his death. Tread lightly!

Great pictures! Easy to tell who is the tourist and who is the local. Mr. A in shorts and Dr. Z in long jeans.

I miss Florida!! *cries*
Wait, I'll be there next month. ;D Anyways, I always wanted to see St Augustine. We did a quick tour of it one time when my mom lived in Green Cove Springs . She lives in Lake City now, so we don't really see that much of that side anymore.
One of my fave parts when we were around there was visiting Marine Land (of Revenge of the Creature fame). That was a trip, lol We loved the beach there and the funky-artsy houses by there.

Some burning questions to answer:
Ratso - The toilet monster (alias Dr. Bung) is living with TomServo69 now. He asked me to send it to him last year so I did. All enquiries to his whereabouts should be addressed to him.
Steve-Dave - Glad to have you if you want to come see us. (Please call first to see if we aren't busy) On a side note: Mr. Atari and I discussed having the next years meet up here in St. Augustine, but the problem is that the town is over 50 miles from the nearest major airport (Jacksonville or Daytona). It will be hard or expensive for anyone flying in and not getting a rental car to get here. The airports are too far away for me to do any pickups (They are an hours trip each way!) San Diego anyone?
mystyfan - Come see us if you have the time. You are welcome.
All - sorry for the batch shot in the last photo. Me Culpa.

[/IMG]
That's Leslie. He's truly a staple here in Austin. Ostensibly he's homeless (although I wonder about the royalties for refrigerator magnets bearing his image, etc...) Just a few weeks ago, MJ and I had my Sister, her husband, and their kids visit us. As we were sitting at a little sidewalk cafe along Congress Avenue, Leslie came waltzing by in a short (SHORT) skirt and a thong. Their mouths were agape as they followed his progress down the boulevard. We breezily informed them that that was just Leslie walking by. Guess we're truly Austinites now...

I have often wondered if I owe Leslie tax on the beer I keep in that old refrigerator. ;D
