I was watching Incredibly Strange Creatures with a buddy of mine who's getting his PhD in philosophy, and he was absolutely thrilled to hear Brainguy say "Oh, for the love of Heidegger" at one point. I think it may have converted him.
Anyway, he (and now I) want to come up with as many philosopher references they made in the show as we can. I can think of only a couple others off hand:
Magic Voyage of Sinbad -- Joel: "Kierkegaard?" And I know there are a couple of Nietzsche and Socrates references thrown around, but I can't remember where.

Well this question went over like a bag of bricks. I'll bump it myself one more time just for a bit of help.
In the meantime, I found one more.
Junior Rodeo Daredevils. Tom (in hick voice): "As my friend Nietzsche says, that which don't kill ya makes ya stronger."

That's mine.

There's a reference in "Night Of The Blood Beast" to someone (I wanna say Diogenes, but that doesn't sound right) when they show a guy holding a lantern, thus producing the riff, "Sorry, just looking for an honest man!" or something.
See, the philosopher in question did that, carrying around a lantern in broad daylight. Because he needed all the help he could get to find an honest person. Or something.
Oh, and on a slightly unrelated note, I've always loved Mike Nelson's essay on "Pessimism" in "Mind Over Matters." That's a bit of a philosophical essay....

Joel, during Being From Another Planet, when one of the teeners is taking his girlfriend out to dinner at a fancy restaurant:
"So, tell me seriously - what do you think of The Critique of Pure Reason, dollface?" ;D

11 year bump: Horrors at Party Beach "Jean Paul Sartre started a motorcycle gang" and Hobgoblins: "Jean Paul Sartre and the Heartbreakers" off the top of my head. Beret jokes are easy, fun and hilarious.

Heh. Nice catches.
This thread is making me realize that I've had an association with this board for over a third of my life. Not complainin'.

Hehe. I was doing some research, came across this post, and didn't want anyone still alive/around to miss this: youtu.be/1OEUv82rJD4?si=ZowUdkEAd5PV1QKtThe show really hides its meaning well. Evil overlords bombard the protagonist's mind with HORRIBLE MEDIA, and to keep from going insane, he invents friends? Talk about a "Zarathustrian sense of self"!
