I think Manos is probebly in my top 10 just because it was the first Comedy Central show I saw( Yes Sci-Fi managed to light the spark in me) and I think one of the greatest accomplishments of the show. They made it watchible, which other movies that they tryied to take on of that... horror they some times don't pull through. So yes I like Manos and still get a kick out off seeing someone try to sit through it for the first time. ;D

I think it's a funny episode, and I also like the fact that the movie is so god-awful that the bots break down crying by the first host segment, and even the mads admit they may have overdone it this time.
Also, I really like this episode because of the riff that is uttered when the Master grabs his dog's leash after waking up.
"Doggy go walkies?" (in an overly childish voice)

What was it like for you fans who watched the show from the start. I mean the ones who watched it unfold and grow week after week.
I keep thinking that final four must have blown you away.
* Monster A Go-Go (I know "Fu Manchu" was often considered the worst movie before this one was aired. What was it like seeing this when it premiered?) * Then your first Russo/Finnish experience (Day the Earth Froze) * And finally, Ed Wood meets MST. That must have been great to finally get these two together at last.
Then comes Manos to close the season.
Not many people had heard of this film. And after those previous 3, could you imagine a more perfect (and terrible, in terms of the movie) way to end the year?
What was it like the first time you saw Torgo?
What was it like the first time you saw Mike Nelson as Torgo?
I gotta imagine the final four was a mind blowing experience.

The reason that Manos and The Pod People are so popular is because they have been available on video the longest. Long-time fans of the show who had seen more of the Comdedy Central episodes probably have other favorites besides Manos or Pod People.

The reason that Manos and The Pod People are so popular is because they have been available on video the longest. Long-time fans of the show who had seen more of the Comdedy Central episodes probably have other favorites besides Manos or Pod People. Yeah sampo brought that up in another thread. And it has merit for those who have few episodes. When I first started off, "The Brain That Wouldn't Die" was my favorite. As I saw more eps it gradually fell back to the point to where it was pushed out of my top 20 even. (Though I still love it) But DVD access can't be the strongest case for the popularity of Pod or Manos. As Disc access grows, these still rank high. And neither Hellcats, Hamlet or Crawling Hand are beloved by a large majority, even with those who have few episodes. In fact, if anything, I've heard with Manos that newbies find it a rough one to sit through and is not a great "starter" episode.

I remember seeing Pod People, Mitchell and Manos when they first aired. Years later, when I started collecting, I found these in a Suncoast Movie store and remembered all 3 eps as being great.
Now that I've collected the entire series, none of them are in my top 10. But even after only seeing them once, my brain filed them away as "classics".

I guess Manos is just the epitome of bad movies and of MST3K. And, it's not that bad of an episode itself.

I've never been a big fan of the truly 'inept' eps. Manos, Red Zone Cuba, The Creeping Terror, etc. I just have a hard time getting past the pain the movie brings on, even with the help of the Best Brains.
I don't think Manos is bad by any means and it definately deserves it's place in MST lore. I just don't think it's top 10 material in terms of the funny.
