I read today there will be another remake of King Kong. The 1933 original is a personal favorite of mine and I hated the first remake. I have a feeling of dread.

Maybe this'll ease that dread: the director for the new King Kong flick happens to be the same director of a certain movie trilogy that features hobbits and elves and rings and such.

I don't give a rat's ass about the "director". To me King Kong 1933 is a classic and you better tread carefully around a classic. Lest you unleash the rath of PHANTOM ENGINEER!

Now you see Afgncaap5, that's a quality post. Chew on your quantity. I guess.

phantomengineer, I think you can rest easy about King Kong and Peter "Lord of the Rings" Jackson. He's going to have buttloads of money to make it, top notch acting, and a personal interest in its quality. He tells the story that it was seeing the original King Kong as a child that got him into movies. That something so "not real" could conjure up real emotions for him changed his life.
He basically did Lord of the Rings to get the clout to remake King Kong right.
And while I understand your sentiment, I would give a rat's whole body about a director. More than acting, money, or studio hype, the director is the one most directly responsible for what you see on the screen.

Peter Jackson can do no wrong. Bad Taste, Meet the Feebles and Dead Alive will automatically make up for any future mishaps

I guess I'm just sentimental. I love those old stop motion effects. I'm sure the new Kong will be CG. Computer effects can look real good but that doesn't mean they look real. A good example is Spiderman. I thought the effects looked like a real good cartoon but not like reality and it sould've made it look real. But don't mind me, I'm bitter.

A good measurement of CGI special effects?
If you notice them- bad
If you notice the story instead- good
If the moviemakers force you to notice the effects because there is no story- very bad

LOTR, who isn't anticipating this? Beleive it or not...Me!
I respect the craft that goes into the films but the subject matter interests' me... not in the least. In fact the first was an excruciating experience for me. Dull and silly to the Nth degree. Gak!
Star Wars I could care less about. So you could say I'm not into sci-fi/fantasy... and yet I love the Super Hero movies. Hmm??
Directors have a big impact on me. I'm a big fan of Soderbergs (more his independent ones tho, like the Limey) and Ang Lee (including Hulk) and Atom Agoyen's another enjoy.
As far as actors go, I really like what Bill Murray has done lately with "Rushmore" and "Lost In Translation"
I'm big on Nicholson and will see anything he's in, tho that doesn't always turn out. Loved "About Schmidt" but hated "Anger Manegment". He has a new one that I'll go see.
Mn, I can't think of a lot that I'm anticipating. I do want to go to "The Last Samurai" and I still want to see "Love Actually".
Oh, "Hellboy", when's that coming out?

Yeah I know Forrest, I'm weird. ;D The theme and psychology behind Hulk interested me. But elves and magic? No, the story for LOTR holds no interest for me. In fact I grit my teeth trying to get through it, I was bored and restless and couldn't wait to leave. But why?
There are obviously larger ideas behind both genera's, the X-Men = predjudicial strife. Spiderman = A mistrusted geek. LOTR has a larger socio/political theme, but I can't relate to it. It doesn't get into me and affect me in a personal way.
Without that connection, at least with me, the movie can't succeed. All I'm left with are fancy FXs and that's simply not enough to hold my attention.
I connected with the Hulk and the story it told.
BTW, I too am a fan of M Night and most of Tim Burton's movies.

I'm looking forward to a whole bunch of movies. First, Jurassic Park 4 I know, the third was crap, but Speilberg promises that the 4th one will be good... Ah, but you forget that Speilberg was also resposible for most of the hype for Jurassic Park III. Now he's turned his back on it, contradicting everything he's ever said, and hyping up for. This time next year I'll expect him to say: "Jurassic Park III? That sucked! Jurassic Park IV is where it's at! But wait until you see V! That'll be the best in the series! Although VI will be pretty damn good too...." Well, I've seen all the movies on my anticapation list this year, for next year my slate is: Spider-Man II Alien vs. Predator Shrek 2 Blade: Trinity The Invincables Seed of Chucky The Punisher Mission: Impossible 3 (that is of course if Tom Cruise get's off his lazy ass and starts filming) Garfield There maybe more. I'll have to think about it...

You know, people can say what they want about the Harry Potter movies (God knows I did) but once I saw them, I must say, I liked them and I'm looking forward to the next one. I also gotta see Return of the King, Spiderman 2 and well, that's about I'll I've seen previews for that looks worth a damn.
Anyways, Servo
