The Land Unknown, that is very interesting as they did several Universal 50s films in Season 8 like the Mole People, Revenge of the Creature. Land Unknown would have been a nice selection. I like that movie. Bad dinos, but still fun and entertaining I wonder if the MST3K were fans of the films they did. I would think they did otherwise they wouldnt watch them repeatedly like that. I am guessing that after viewing Manos, or It Conquered the World or something, they added it to their VHS or DVD collection. Some of us have 'guilty pleasures' watching bad films or ones called bad, but are at the very least fun.neat or entertaining to watch... I found it funny that MST rejected doing some movies like Terror of Tiny Town (according to the book). I always felt they should do all the titles being offered in fear that they run out of "X amount" of bad movies. I used to wonder why not Plan 9, but that has such a rep for being the worst film ever made, that it didnt need to be riffled, it held the brass ring for being the worst. Funny thing is, it is far from the worst....

I do keep hearing about Starcon '92 over and over. I didn't start watching the show until season 4 and didn't start taping until season 6.

I think they were sent movies by distributors they may have a good relationship with and then would view those movies. That doesn’t mean it would be absolute to get any movie from them. Several times they couldn’t get movies they viewed. Some of them were even scheduled as episodes. Off the top of my head there was Charro! (421), Moment by Moment (I don’t know, I think sometime in season six), Beyond the Bermuda Triangle (623), Master Ninja III (624), Starship Invaders (sometime season seven)m and The Land Unknown (803). Question: Where did you get this information? I've always wondered because I never heard anything about these and the only ones I heard they wanted and couldn't get are from the ACEG.

421, 623 and 624 were all in episodes guides that were stuck in time. For example, the one that listed Charro!, only had host segments listed up to something like Teenagers from Outer Space. I think most of these were scheduled, but the rights fell through.
Moment by Moment has been confirmed by Kevin Muprhy and Mary Jo Pehl. I placed it in the sixth season, since that's when they got two Universal pictures (614 and 615)
Starship Invaders was in the ACEG.
The Land Unknown was revealed in a pre production chat with Kevin Murphy, before season eight started. Apparently they were on an early draft of the script before they changed movies.

RE: I wonder if the MST3K were fans of the films they did.
Well, I'm pretty sure they were fans of Revenge of the Creature. They seemed to have some knowledge of the film. For example, they all seemed very aware of the Clint Eastwood cameo.

Oh, yes, all (or most) of the writers grew up in the age when you turned on your tv on almost any given afternoon or night (esp. weekends) and the kind of movies that were msted would be on. There's not question that, Frank and Joel in particular, love most of these movies. Of course, I can imagine some stuff, like Manos and Coleman's stuff, was so obscure none of them had ever seen it until they came across it for the show. I guess you have to be the same generation as them (I am just a few years younger than most of them) to know this offhand.
As far as Moment by Moment goes....I didn't know they were so close to doing it. It's really too bad. Would haven been one of the classic eps I think. I highly recommend seeking this film out for laughs. I mean John Travolta and Lily Tomlin...together....it's great stuff.
