What's your favorite doorway sequence, the one from Joel's or Mike's era? Joel's era doorway is cheaper but i like it more because it's more colorful, has more pomp and splendor to it, the medieval style torches and gated door type things are the big plus here. Mike's is more sleaker but colder, has the running mouse as an answer to Joel's torches, bubbles, both have the last vault type doorway.

Just to be a fly in your ointment, Mike had three different Door sequences by my count (CC, Movie, SciFi).

...and Joel's KTMA is different from CC. Time to put out the flypaper, Redgrant. Oh, and Joel's KTMA is my fave. Cheap, & therefore all the dearer.

I was introduced to Mike's doorway sequence first, and as such, I'm warmer to it. It looks more professional and more heavily detailed, like you'd really expect the actual interior of the satellite to look. But Joel's doorway sequence was fun too (it became even more fun when I discovered "pizza", but that's a different story).

The only difference it the Main Door (seven, if you will) has the SOL 'bone' as the closer.

I kinda like both, but I have to say, Mike's doorway sequence looked out of place on the CC-era. Cause the doorway was all dark, and the main bridge was all happy and cheery. When the bridge started becoming darker (season 7), that was when the Mike doorway sequence began to fit.
I liked how Joel's doorway was all colorful. Although the accidental "raised floor" kinda ruined the imagery (it doesn't match up with the bridge floor), but I ignore it, cause MST wasn't about perfect SEX.... er, I mean.... SFX!

I'm tempted to vote for the KTMA one too, just to be contrary. And to uphold my reputation as (strikes a dramatic pose, cape that came from nowhere suddenly fluttering in the non-existent wind) OLDSCHOOL GIRL! :P
But seriously. I like them all, in their ways. Speaking of the "Season Zero" doors, one of the doors in _Mike's_ sequence strongly reminds me of one of those. Maybe two, sort of mixed together. There's one that has two little screens, one on either side of the door, in the KTMA one, and then the weirdly-textured main/front door. One of Mike's has TV screens on either side _and_ almost exactly the same weird texturing as the main Season Zero door, but it's painted blue.
Is this actually a "discovery" or has everybody known it for a long time...or am I just seeing things that are similar but not really the same? I just thought it was interesting, is all.
And since I'm a fan of cheese...I have to say, even though it looks unrealistic, I kind of like the few times you see Joel and/or the 'bots actually running _through_ a few of the doors. It happens like two or three times on KTMA and then once on Season One; I can't remember the specific episodes. But it's something to see, all right. :)

It isn't even a contest.
Joel's doors win due to the simple fact that Mike doors are all boring and grey.

Although I do kind of like the one (in Mike's) that has the bubbles, so you can tell it's supposed to be filled with water...but a door with _holes_ in it holding it "back". It's funny BECAUSE it makes absolutely no sense. :P
Or maybe I just have a weird sense of humour. But we all do, to some degree, or we wouldn't be here, would we?

Joel's door number 4 used to drive me crazy...you can barely see the number...
..seems petty now.

Heh. You know, when I was showing the episodes (that I had at the time) through in order to my family, my mother always used to say that, too. "It _bugs_ me that you can't see the number..." she'd grumble. Then when we switched to Mike's doorway sequence, "Finally! I can read all the numbers!"
:P
So you're not the only one to be moderately bothered by that, it seems. Heh.

Technically didn't KTMA have two doroways sequences? One for The Green Slime pilot that was just the camera going through a bunch of regualr doors without sound, and then an actual constructed doorway sequence for the rest of KTMA. Or did they just use the pilot one for the whole season? As far as my favorite i would have to say Mike. It seems to flow better and sounds better. I still get a bit bugged by Joel's door three that sounds like a women saying pizza

I...never heard that, myself...
As for KTMA, you're right. I guess I was not counting the pilot one on account of (a) it only got used _once_, and (b) in an episode that was not even full length and never really intended to be shown on TV at all. Anyway, when I say "the KTMA doorway sequence", I am of course talking about the normal one. K01-K21.
