HERE's a classic esoteric reference for me, and I'm surprised I never thought to ask:
What's the deal with "the STINKY guy?"

One riff that's been bothering me for awhile is from Warrior of the Lost World. During the leather-clad dancing scene, Joel says in a haughty British accent, "If you can't put in thirty minutes a day, you don't deserve a hot date". Who the hell is he imitating?

This one only SORTA belongs in this thread, but I don't know where else to ask.
In the Episode Guide, mention is made of a song at the end of "Warrior of the Lost World" I believe, where the lyrics sound like "Aw du peepa abba in da wowah." The do a callback to this in "Outlaw" and they sing it a few times.
But I've watched "Warrior" a couple of times, and my copy at least doesn't have any moment where I can hear any background music, noticeably enough to make out such muddled lyrics. They way they riff about it in "Outlaw" I expect it to be fairly prominent in "Warrior," but I can't find it.
Where's it at?

I'll admit I've never quite heard the line that they always quote, though. Are they talking over it?

The episode guide says it's during "the kissing scene" but I'll be damned if I hear anything remotely sounding like the version the guys sing during "Outlaw." All three of them sing it, loud and boisterous, like a choir. But during the kissing scene there is just a female soloist singing softly. Frankly, their version sounds a lot more like the "Mike Curb Congregation" music that pops up sporadically in Warrior. Here's the clip in question: www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8qCzx4mqpUCompare the "we are the world" type singing at 1:00 to the singing during the kissing scene. Neither of them sound much like "Aw Du Peepo Abba in Da Wooooa" but the earlier music is closer, in my mind.

Thank you. I thought I was the only one who didn't hear it.

Well, with my ear pressed against my speakers, I hear what you're talking about in the pre-kiss/pre-twist scene. While Joel & The 'Bots are singing "WE ARE THE WORLD!!" I can barely make out the Mike Curb Congregation singing "Aw Du Peepo Abba" and when J&TB are done, you can hear something that sounds like "in Da Wooooooa" The thing is, I think it might be the same song. Here's why: right as Joel says, "Yes, I'd like to dedicate this next song to the New Way," there is a piano intro and the beginnings of the vocals to the song in the Kissing Scene. Suddenly, with no video cuts, we get the full-on chorus - and a jarred reaction from J&TB ("This is weird."). Then again, it could be a different song. I've never seen the movie uncut (though it does hold a lowly spot near the tail-end of my Netflix queue), but it seems like there a part of the song that keeps playing during the commmercial. Again, having not seen it, I could be wrong there. I just always thought the Kissing Scene was the song that they loathed, they do react to it badly. I never heard the words "Aw Du Peepo Abba in Da Wooooa," so I never knew where it came from. I think it means I need to watch "Outlaw" again.

I confess, I've done some on-line searching trying to find those WotLW lyrics. But no, alas, there is nothing out there. The two songs from Warrior, both composed by Mike Fraser, Douglas Meakin and Daniele Patucchi are "Let me in Your Life," sung by Chystina Worth, and "Remembering the Unknown Soldier" sung by the Sistina Choir. (source: imdb)
So the only way I can figure to get the lyrics is to buy or rent the movie unriffed and listen repeatedly, and I just don't think I can take it.

I like how J&TB toss in "All the Young Dudes", too. I never got the reference in "Riding With Death" where Ben Murphy leans over the the Gavin McLeod wannabe and Tom says "Hi Matt (Mac?)" Is this a MTM reference?

If so, then it's a reference to Gavin MacLeod's character on The Mary Tyler Moore Show. He usually called MTM "Mare" instead of "Mary." Unless he says, "Hi, Murr" or "Hi, Murray," since that was Gavin's character's name on TMTMS. Can you give a little more info as to where in the ep this is said?

When they are meeting to discuss the truck transfer at the start of the movie. I figured it had to be a MTM show ref, so thanks for the info so far.

Hi, board noob here. Been looking for an answer to a reference online for a few days, found this site and this AWESOME thread....
Twice in the last 2 days while watching Season 7 or 8, I've caught references to "Amanda Beardsley". Usually along with stuff like "putting on some Jill Sobule records" or "The Childrens Hour", so I get the general idea.... but who's Amanda Beardsley?
Thanks!
