No. They never wanted them on the show to begin with, so their goal on that is to pretend they don't exist at all.
Plus releasing the episodes would be considered supplemental, and Toho notoriously hates supplimentals on their films unless they're supplied by their own studio.

I was joking, since they are pan and scan versions. Toho seems much more relaxed about others poking fun at Godzilla inside Japan than outside it.

I figured this was the right place to ask about this. Since Million Eyes of Su Muru from the KTMA era got a rifftrax re-riff I was curious about the rights to that movie. I was on another message board and I heard someone imply it was in the public domain but couldn't find anything that says it is so thought it was alright to ask if it's known who owns the rights to it or if it is PD.

Blue Underground released it on Blu-Ray in 2016, (remastered from the original negative) and it seems to have a copyright on it. Would be nice to see the new show revisit this one.

From what I've heard, TOHO has been pretty difficult working with Criterion. They only want the Japanese versions and are specifying which remasters Criterion can use. The American cuts are absent from the release aside from King Kong vs Godzilla which oddly has the American cut as the main feature and the Japanese cut as a bonus. Criterion will do additional retouching to the supplied remasters and will be handling the subtitles which should be accurate unlike past releases. So I very much doubt this moves the needle on MST3K releases. The Criterion set has stirred up quite the discussion in the Godzilla fandom RE: packaging artwork and the lack of U.S. versions/English dubs. I'm just happy to get the rest of the Showa series on Blu-ray, but it's a real shame Criterion couldn't use Sony's superior transfers for GODZILLA VS. THE SEA MONSTER, SON OF GODZILLA, VS. HEDORAH, VS. GIGAN and VS. MECHAGODZILLA and especially for not being able to use Toho's new restoration of KING KONG VS. GODZILLA! Alas, it's Toho doing their same-old same-old thing. The MST3k version is extra noteworthy as it uses the American direct-to-TV release version (with the fan-beloved original dub) augmented with FVI's not-so-subtle video credits over some footage from SON OF GODZILLA. I wonder if anyone out there has seen the unMSTed version that FVI made? Perhaps shown in syndication on local networks? All of FVI's alterations look super cheap and shady, almost like a bargain bin bootleg video label.

The funny thing is, I remember watching that dub while growing up, but never with the Film Ventures imposed credits. It was either a Walter Reade release (who also released the U.S. version of Son of Godzilla ) or somebody else, but definitely not F.V.
I wonder when F.V. wrested the distribution rights away. Did they even have the legal right of distribution in the first place?

It seems like nothing FVI touched when they were feeding movies to MST3K was completely legal. It's a shame that the only documentary we have on the company is in its first version with the owner who embezzled and was never seen again when the later version seems like an equally wild story.

They didn't have the rights to any of it. That's why they worked mostly with non-American films, changed most of the names and added unrelated scenes to the open and closes. They even did this with one of the Gamera movies, releasing Gamera Vs. Barugon as "Gamera Strikes Back" (with scenes from Ghidorah the Three-Headed Monster added in the opening and closing).

I didn't know they released a Gamera film too! That's hilarious.

Looks like that one might have made it to DVD. I kind of miss the days when bargain basement video labels put out legally dubious titles like this. I would find a bin at a bargain store or someplace that you wouldn't normally see movies for sale and score some vintage tv-movie cheese, or a rare non-Hercules Steve Reeves film.

Not the actual "Gamera Strikes Back" Film Ventures credits, but an incredible simulation!

I did some reading and apparently there was a VHS released of GAMERA STRIKES BACK in the late 80's/early-90's by Majestic Home Video that has a copyright from Film Ventures, Int. on it! I've never come across it in all my years of rare kaiju releases. Looks like that one might have made it to DVD. I've seen this DVD listed before! Anyone know if it's the FVI version or just something slapped together using the AIP version and a new video-generated title card?

I'm desperate for an update on the rumored Vol. 40. With the Vol. 12 re-release dropping in October, it seems now should be about the time for at least an announcement. If it is really coming out this year, anyway.

It's the AI-TV version but the title card is even worse than you'd think. Gonna quote myself from the Monster Zero forums: www.scifijapan.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=21206&p=504562#p504155

I'm not betting on 40 coming out this year, but I think there will at least be an announcement. I think Fire Maidens and Delta Knights are guaranteed to be on the collection and anything Godzilla or Susan Hart is out of the question. As for the other two slots, I'm hoping for Deadly Bees and possibly a KTMA episode. As unrealistic as that sounds, I just feel like it's gonna happen. But I'm usually wrong. So, you shouldn't listen to me.
