Well, after hearing so much hype about it, I finally settled down and watched Pod People...but besides some really good Host Segments and the excellent stream of riffs when Trumpy looks at Tommy's pets, it left me cold.
Thought I'd make a thread about it, because it seems like a good episode to make a conversation out of.
Anyway, yeah, I really don't see what's so great about it.

I like it a lot, much more so than I usually like Joel era episodes to be honest. I think it deserves its praise.

I like it, if for no other reason than "Idiot Control"

It has the best series of host segments in a single episode. Decent riffing, too.

Watched it once will never watch it again. Depressing boring movie and no funny comments during it.

A true classic. Watched the broadcast version back in the day, and my brother and I can still pull quotes out of the air. They get laughs, too

One of... if not the most popular episode of all-time, and it probably won over more fans than any other episode--even Manos. I'm sure Manos introduced more people to MST, but I doubt it won over as many as Pod People. The former being so creepy and the latter so, in my opinion, positive and upbeat. (Caaaaaall me/ Call me and tell me you loooooooove me....)
I'm frequently amazed when I see people judging or critiquing or even grading an episode after only 1 or 2 viewings. I always figured that if I loved an episode right away it was just a bonus. At some point every episode will be the exact episode I'm in the mood for. Every Red Zone Cuba will have its day.

I love the host segments... but the riffing just isn't that good. I feel this way about a lot of Joel episodes.

I love it personally, and have warm, fuzzy, nostalgic feelings for it. But I made the mistake once of showing it to an MST newcomer. It was not a positive experience. Very slow, very depressing. And to me it's a bad bad movie, not a good bad movie. Still, I do love it.

I really enjoy the episode but I do tend to think it is a bit overrated. Not as overrated as Manos, but a bit.......

I enjoy this movie. The riffing is good, and the Idiot Control now skit is good. I also like Frank in the t-shirt at the end. The movie I think is one of the quintessential MST 3K episodes.

It's an episode that has been loved from the get go. I love it, can't wait to see it again. Cow's Elephant Man imitation is one of the funniest things I have ever seen. For the word "overrated" a word that is "overused".
