Arachnaphobia, anyone? Statistics show that arachnaphobia is the most common phobia people suffer from*. I blame Little Miss Muffet. When I was 5 years old, there was a black widow that nested right outside my window. Scarred me for life. I now live in a brand new neighborhood that was built on the breeding grounds of the famed Brown Recluse. Last fall, I saw one about 8 inches in legspan on our living room window**. (On the outside, fortunately.) Then there's the Iraqi Camel Spider, which jumps out of the sand, attaches itself to the underside of a camel, and takes it down***. Eew. So which is your favorite spider? Errr...spider episode? *Not actually researched or true. **Actually true. ***Not true, but actually researched. A good friend who just got back from Iraq told me that they're not really that bad.

Giant Spider Invasion was the first MST3K episode I ever saw. So yeah, it wins. ;D As for real life spiders: When I was a kid in Buffalo, there was always this huge spider that would build her web by our doorbell at night. We always left her where she was, as she wasn't hurting anyone. All throughout my childhood this spider was there (not the same spider obviously, but her descendants), so I got pretty used to her being there. I liked her. Then one night when I was a teenager, a couple of my girlfriends were coming over, and when they knocked on my door they said, "Hey, there was this huge spider by your doorbell! It was gross! But don't worry, we stomped on it for you." I was furious that they killed my spider. I chewed them out and started crying. Because the line was broken, I never saw any spiders like that at my house again... Moral of the story: Don't kill spiders. They're really good guys.

Last fall, I saw one about 8 inches in legspan on our living room window**. (On the outside, fortunately.) Ugggggghhh...you never have to worry about a surprise visit from me anymore. Oh, spider episodes you say? Without a doubt, Giant Spider Invasion. I still dislike most of the host segments, but the movie segments have remained some of my favorites ever since I first saw them. Edit: And please, no more spider stories

Edit: And please, no more spider stories I don't know if we can promise that. But I would ask that if anyone is going to show pictures, to post links instead. That way, the little girls and the squeamish (and me) can choose not to see them. Thanks in advance.

Earth vs. the Spider for me. Giant Spider Invasion is pretty good, too, but Earth vs. the Spider's strong short and solid host segments and goofy season 3 vibe give it the edge. Horror's of Spider Island is pretty much unwatchable, so that one's not even in the running. One of my least favorite episodes ever.

Before "Horrors of Spider Island", I never knew women could be shaped like line-backers.
When I was about eight years old, I couldn't sleep, and for some reason I sat down in the hallway. A spider started crawling on my hand and then proceeded to crawl up my arm. I could only think of the Dracula movies I'd seen. So I knew he was heading for my neck! I brushed him off and jumped back into bed. It was probably a Daddy Long Legs, but still!

Horrors of Spider Island for me, too. The multi-dimensional plane crash, Georgia's hotness, that crazy agent reaching for his drink, NO! his cigarette, WAIT -- NO! his drink! Plus Gary's smugness, and that great "fight" between the little fella and the be-sashed gutsucker. Great fun.

Giant Spider Invasion ranks very high on my list of top MST3K episodes. Truss, anyone?

I'm going to be very sad if Horrors of Spider Island gets more votes than Earth vs. the Spider.

Still, I voted for Earth vs Soup The Spider

I'm going to be very sad if Horrors of Spider Island gets more votes than Earth vs. the Spider. It probably will. One's a Rhino release and a late period Sci-Fi ep, the other is a relatively obscure CC ep that has never been released commerically. But I hear you on the sentiment.

Earth vs. the Spider for me. The short is great and the movie segments keep up the vibe. Every Bert I. Gordon movie that made it on the show receives wonderful riffing.

I love BOTH Joel AND Mike. However, all things being equal, I tend to enjoy the later episodes more. But, on this list, all things are not equal. All three episodes are good, but Earth vs. Spider is slightly better that the other two…as far as I’m concerned. Plus, there’s a nostalgic element at play for me (Earth vs. Spider was one of the first episodes I showed my brother; who was soon HOOKED!)

I like all of these but I went Earth vs. the Spider. And I'm not scared of spiders.
